Dutch National Badminton Championships

The Dutch National Badminton Championships is a tournament organized to crown the best badminton players in the Netherlands.

The tournament started in 1932 and is held every year by Badminton Nederland.

Mia Audina Tjiptawan is a former Indonesian badminton player who represented Indonesia and later the Netherlands in international competitions. A badminton prodigy, Audina first played Uber Cup for Indonesia at age fourteen, winning the decisive final match in the championship round against China in 1994. She was briefly ranked as the World No.1 women's singles player in October 1996. Audina helped Indonesia to retain the Uber Cup title in 1996, and was a member of the 1998 Indonesian team which relinquished the Cup to China, before moving to the Netherlands with her Dutch-national husband in 2000.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Uber Cup</span> International womens badminton competition

The Uber Cup, sometimes called the World Women's Team Championships, is a major international badminton competition contested by women's national badminton teams. First held in 1956–1957 and contested at three year intervals, it has been contested every two years since 1984 when its scheduled times and venues were merged with those of Thomas Cup, the world men's team championship. In 2007, the Badminton World Federation decided to have Thomas and Uber Cup finals separated again but the proposal was ultimately abandoned. The Uber Cup is named after a former British women's badminton player, Betty Uber, who in 1950 had the idea of hosting a women's event similar to the men's. She also made the draw for the 1956–1957 inaugural tournament, which took place at Lytham St. Annes in Lancashire, England.

The 2003 IBF World Championships were held in the National Indoor Arena, Birmingham, United Kingdom, between 28 July and 3 August 2003. The championships had originally been planned to take place from 12 May-18 May, but were rescheduled following the international outbreak of SARS.

The Badminton World Federation, aka BWF, is the international governing body for the sport of badminton approved by the International Olympic Committee. It was founded on 5 July 1934 as the International Badminton Federation with nine member nations: Canada, Denmark, England, France, Ireland, Netherlands, New Zealand, Scotland and Wales. In 1981, the IBF merged with the World Badminton Federation, and on 24 September 2006, at the Extraordinary General Meeting in Madrid, the name of the organization was changed to Badminton World Federation.

Paulien van Dooremalen is a Dutch former badminton player from Duinwijck and she also played for the Badminton Club Amersfoort. She currently resides in Arnhem and was a doubles specialist. She also featured in the Netherlands women's team that won the 2006 European Women's Team Championships, and also the silver medal at the world women's team championships, 2006 Uber Cup in Japan. She won the Dutch National Mixed doubles title in 2008 with Ruud Bosch. She also won the National Women's doubles twice in 2010 and 2011 with Lotte Jonathans.

The Netherlands national badminton team represents the Netherlands in international badminton team competitions. It is controlled by Badminton Nederland. The Dutch women's team had enjoyed success in the 2000s as the team were runners-up at the 2006 Uber Cup and were champions at the 2006 European Women's Team Badminton Championships when they beat England.

The 2003 Sudirman Cup was the 8th tournament of the World Mixed Team Badminton Championships of Sudirman Cup. It was held from March 18 to March 23, 2003, in Eindhoven, Netherlands. South Korea won in this eighth edition of the championship against China in the final 3–1.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Ruud Bosch</span> Dutch badminton player (born 1984)

Ruud Bosch is a Dutch former badminton player. He is a doubles specialist. He became a member of the Netherlands national badminton team in 2004, then in 2006, he won a silver medal at the European Badminton Mixed Team Championships. After quitting the men's doubles combination with Koen Ridder after eight years in August 2014, Bosch moved to Taiwan to form a new combination with Tien Tzu-Chieh in men's doubles and Shuai Pei-ling in mixed doubles.

Cheryl Seinen is a Dutch badminton player. She won the women's doubles gold medal at the 2019 European Games with Selena Piek, and later the silver medal in 2023 with Debora Jille. She also won two individual bronze medals at the European Badminton Championships.

Anton Kaisti is a Finnish badminton player. He joined Finish national badminton team since 2007, then in 2014 he won a bronze medal at the European Men's Team Championships in Basel.

Toby Penty is a retired English badminton player. He started playing badminton at aged 9, and won U-19 English National Championships in 2011. In 2010, he won junior titles in the Netherlands and Switzerland. In 2017, he won the Swedish International tournament in the men's singles event.

Alex Christiaan Vlaar is a Dutch-Bulgarian badminton player. He was born in Lelystad, the Netherlands. His father Chris Vlaar is a Dutch rally car driver and badminton coach, his mother is former badminton player Emilia Dimitrova who is also a coach. She played for Bulgaria at the 1992 Olympics women's doubles.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">2020 Thomas & Uber Cup</span> Biennial international badminton championship

The 2020 Thomas & Uber Cup was the 31st edition of the Thomas Cup and the 28th edition of the Uber Cup, the biennial international badminton championship contested by the men and women's national teams of the member associations of Badminton World Federation (BWF). The tournament were played at Ceres Arena in Aarhus, Denmark. It is the first time that Denmark hosted the Thomas Cup and Uber Cup tournament and the first time this event was held in Europe since England 1982. It was due to be played on 15–23 August 2020, but on 29 April 2020 it was postponed to the 3–11 October due to the COVID-19 pandemic. On 15 September 2020 it was again postponed and on 21 December 2020 it was announced that it was postponed to 9–17 October 2021.

The Austria national badminton team represents Austria in international badminton team competitions and is controlled by the Austrian Badminton Association. Austria participated in the Sudirman Cup from 1989 until 2017.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Norway national badminton team</span> National badminton team representing Norway

The Norway national badminton team represents Norway in international badminton team competitions. It is controlled by the Norwegian Badminton Association. Norway participated in the Sudirman Cup until 2007. The national team have never qualified nor competed in the Thomas Cup and the Uber Cup.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Wales national badminton team</span> National badminton team

The Wales national badminton team represents Wales in international badminton team competitions. It is controlled by Badminton Wales, the national organization for badminton in the country. Wales have never participated in the Thomas Cup and the Uber Cup. The team's last appearance in the international stage was at the 2007 Sudirman Cup.
