Communities in the Province of Manitoba, Canada include incorporated municipalities, unincorporated communities and First Nations communities.

Contents

Types of incorporated municipalities include urban municipalities, rural municipalities and local government districts. Urban municipalities can be named as cities, towns, villages or simply urban municipalities. [1]

The administration of urban and rural municipalities is regulated by The Municipal Act. [1] Some municipalities have since amalgamated, making this list inaccurate.

In the 2011 Census, Manitoba's communities combined for a total provincial population of 1,208,268. [2]

  2. Flin Flon is Manitoba's smallest city by population. The balance of Flin Flon is located within Saskatchewan.
  3. This area does not include 2.37 km2 (0.92 sq mi) in the Saskatchewan portion of Flin Flon. The city's total area in 2016 was 16.24 km2 (6.27 sq mi).

    <span class="mw-page-title-main">Flin Flon</span> City in Manitoba and Saskatchewan, Canada

    Flin Flon is a mining city, located on a correction line on the border of the Canadian provinces of Manitoba and Saskatchewan, with the majority of the city located within Manitoba. Residents thus travel southwest into Saskatchewan, and northeast into Manitoba. The city is incorporated in and is jointly administered by both provinces.

    Cranberry Portage is an unincorporated community recognized as a local urban district located in the Rural Municipality of Kelsey, Manitoba. It was an important part of the pre-European contact trade routes of the Cree and Assiniboine peoples. Long before the fur trade with the Bay and during the Fur Trade, this location was used as a campsite and portage between Grassy River, at the head of a number of well-used routes from Hudson Bay, and Lake Athapapuskow, which connected to the Saskatchewan River system. Once on the Saskatchewan routes were open through the prairies to the foothills of the Rocky Mountains.

Originally encompassing a small square around the Red River Colony, the province was extended north to the 60th parallel in 1912.     The geography of Manitoba addresses the easternmost of the three prairie Canadian provinces, located in the longitudinal centre of Canada. Manitoba borders on Saskatchewan to the west, Ontario to the east, Nunavut to the north, and the American states of North Dakota and Minnesota to the south. Although the border with Saskatchewan appears straight on large-scale maps, it actually has many right-angle corners that give the appearance of a slanted line. In elevation, Manitoba ranges from sea level on Hudson Bay to 2727 ft (831 m) on top of Baldy Mountain. The northern sixty percent of the province is on the Canadian Shield. The northernmost regions of Manitoba lie permafrost, and a section of tundra bordering Hudson Bay.

    Sandy Bay is a northern village in the boreal forest of northern Saskatchewan, Canada.     The Mathias Colomb Cree Nation (MCCN) —also known as Mathias Colomb First Nation, Mathias Colomb (Cree) First Nation, and Pukatawagan/Mathias Colomb Cree Nation—is a remote First Nations community in northern Manitoba, located 210 km (130 mi) north of The Pas and 819 km (509 mi) northwest of Winnipeg, Manitoba.

    Lake Athapapuskow is a glacial lake in Manitoba and Saskatchewan, Canada, located 15 km (9.3 mi) southeast of Flin Flon, Manitoba. The lake is in the Hudson Bay drainage basin and is the source of the Goose River.

    The D Division is the division of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police responsible for federal policing in Manitoba and, at times, northwestern Ontario. Headquartered in Winnipeg, the division is commanded by Assistant Commissioner Rob Hill and consists of 1089 police officers and 438 support staff.
