The compound can be prepared by a controlled reaction of ammonia, boric acid, and water. [3] [4]

Physical properties

The compound forms white crystals soluble in water. [5]

Ammonium pentaborate forms tetrahydrate H4B5NO8· 4H2O [6] and octahydrate H4B5NO8· 4H2O. [7]

Uses

The compound is used to inhibit heat, flame, and corrosion in a variety of industrial applications. [8]
