The MENA Chart is an International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) sanctioned music chart covering Middle Eastern and Northern Africa (MENA) countries.

Contents

Background

The chart was announced by IFPI on November 29, 2022. It includes data from 13 countries: Algeria, Bahrain, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Morocco, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Tunisia, and the United Arab Emirates. The data is collected by the Spanish BMAT Music Company and is released every Tuesday. [1] Four more charts were launched in October 2023, tracking song performance in Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Egypt. A second regional chart was introduced for North Africa. [2]

It is a pop rock and synth-pop song driven by a 1980s-inspired drum loop generated with a LinnDrum and retro synthesizers such as the Juno 6 and the Prophet 5. Inspired by Swift's insecurities, the lyrics focus on self-loathing and the impact of fame on her wellbeing; the bridge narrates a nightmare where her daughter-in-law murders her for her last will. "Escapism" is an uptempo R&B, electropop and hip hop song with lyrics speaking of escaping from reality and dealing with heartbreak.

It was sent to Italian contemporary hit radio through Republic Records and Boominati Worldwide as the lead and only single from Metro's second studio album, Heroes & Villains, on January 27, 2023. It is a remake of "I Don't Wanna Know" (2004) by Mario Winans featuring Enya and P. Diddy, which is based on a sample of the Fugees' song "Ready or Not" (1996), and itself samples Enya's "Boadicea" (1987).
