On 2 October 1990,a hijacked Boeing 737,operating Xiamen Airlines Flight 8301,collided with two other aircraft on the runways of the old Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport while attempting to land. The hijacked aircraft struck parked China Southwest Airlines Flight 4305 first,inflicting only minor damage,but then collided with China Southern Airlines Flight 3523,a Boeing 757 waiting to take off,flipping onto its back. A total of 128 people were killed,including seven of nine crew members and 75 of 93 passengers on Flight 8301 and 46 of 110 passengers on Flight 3523.

Guangzhou–Foshan circular intercity railway,also known as the Guangfo ring intercity railway,is a regional rail in the Pearl River Delta Metropolitan Region intercity railway system. The line will form a ring around Guangzhou,Guangdong,China. The first section between Guangzhou South to Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport started construction in 2016. The line will operate with China Railway CRH6 EMUs running every 2.5 minutes.

Line 22 of the Guangzhou Metro is a partially open rapid transit express line in Guangzhou with trains operating up to 160 km/h (99 mph). It runs between Panyu Square and Chentougang,passing Guangzhou South Railway Station in Panyu District,and will eventually run in a north-south direction passing Xilang and Fangcun in Liwan District. Currently,there are train attendants on board each train. In the future,trains will operate fully driverless GoA4 mode when sufficient reliability from the signaling system has been confirmed.
