Kaputa District is a district of Zambia, located in Northern Province. The capital lies at Kaputa. As of the 2000 Zambian Census, the district had a population of 87,233 people. [1]

History

In March 2020, the district experienced severe flooding at Mofwe crossing point on the Mporokoso to Mununga road. [2]

Infrastructure

Education

In May 2017, Kaputa Boarding Secondary School built for an estimated ZMW 44 million (US$ 4.6 million) was opened to cater for 392 pupils. [3]

Utilities

In April 2022, the Kaputa Water and Sanitation Project built for ZMW 161 million (US$ 9.5 million) by Tomorrow Investments Limited was commissioned by the Country's Vice President Mutale Nalumango for improved access to clean and safe water supply for the residents in the district. [4] [5] [6]

Agriculture

In 2020, farmers in Kaputa cultivated 2,362 hectares of rice with a yield of 2,347 metric tonnes. The Ministry of Agriculture in Kaputa has estimated that over 2,800 hectares of rice has been cultivated for the 2020 farming season. [7] [8]

Chembe is a border town in Chembe District in the Luapula Province of Zambia. Kalumbila Mine is a copper mine in Kalumbila District, North-Western Province, Zambia. It was formed in 2010 and is one of the four copper mines in Zambia. As of 2018, it was the fourth largest mining employer in Zambia with 11 000 workers. Kalumbila is also the name of the town where the mine is situated.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Mutale Nalumango</span> Zambian politician

W.K.Mutale Nalumango is an educator and politician who is the 14th and current vice president of Zambia, the second woman to hold the position. She previously served as vice-president of the Secondary Schools’ Teachers Union of Zambia before resigning to begin her political career in 2001. She first became a member of the National Assembly in 2001 as a member of the Movement for Multiparty Democracy, representing the Kaputa Constituency. She later served as deputy minister of information and deputy speaker in parliament, the first woman to hold that position.
