Air India commenced operations on 29 July 1946, operating under the Government of India. On 8 June 1948, a Lockheed Constellation L-749A named Malabar Princess operated the airline's first international flight between Mumbai and London Heathrow. [2]

As of November2024, Air India serves a total of 45 international and 49 domestic destinations. [3] Its network spans across various destinations in Asia, North America, Africa, Europe and Oceania. The countries served the most by the airline are the United States with 5 destinations, followed by the United Kingdom and Saudi Arabia with 3 destinations each. Currently, the longest flight operated by Air India is between San Francisco and Bengaluru using the 777-200LR. [4] This list does not contain destinations served by subsidiary Air India Express.
