At least 74 Colombian citizens have been killed during the Russian invasion of Ukraine, 73 of them as servicemen of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, and most of them being military veterans. One Colombian fighting for the Ukrainian Armed Forces was also captured by the Russian Army in June 2024. In addition, three Colombians are listed as missing in action fighting for Ukraine, while two went missing as they were returning to Colombia. As of July 2024, 200 Colombians were fighting in Ukraine. [1]
Colombian fighters are increasingly drawn to Ukraine because the pay they receive there is much higher than what is normally paid in Colombia. [2]
On 4 June 2024, the Colombian Ambassador in the United Kingdom said that 51 Colombian nationals died in Ukraine fighting as mercenaries. [3] The following list contains 72 servicemen listed as killed among the Armed Forces of Ukraine:

The Colombian peace agreement referendum was held on 2 October 2016, aiming to ratify the final agreement on the termination of the Colombian conflict between the Colombian government and the FARC guerillas. Juan José Florián Valencia is a Colombian paracyclist and former para swimmer. He was the national record holder in multiple S5 swimming events, and won the road race and time trial cycling events at the 2021 Colombian National Championships. Florián fought for both sides in the Colombian conflict.
The International Legion of Territorial Defence of Ukraine, or the Ukrainian Foreign Legion, is a military unit of the Territorial Defense Forces of Ukraine composed of foreign volunteers. It was created on 27 February 2022 by the Ukrainian government at the request of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to fight against the Russian invasion of the country.
