Badminton at GANEFO

Badminton made its debut in GANEFO (Games of New Emerging Forces) in 1963 and was one of the main sports in the multi-sport event. The sport was contested for a second time in the 1966 GANEFO in Phnom Penh, Cambodia (1st Asian GANEFO) prior to the collapse of the GANEFO organization in the 1970s. [1] [2] [3]

Since the Chinese national badminton team were not able to compete in international events in the 1960s due to not being affiliated with the International Badminton Federation, the Chinese team were only allowed to compete in GANEFO badminton events. The Games gave the Chinese team a platform to shine as Chinese players managed to reach the finals in every discipline. [4] [5] [6] [7]

Zhao Junpeng is a Chinese badminton player. In 2016 and 2017, he became the runner-up at the China International Challenge tournament in the men's singles event. He won his first senior international title at the 2016 Macau Open Grand Prix Gold where he defeated Chou Tien-chen of Chinese Taipei in straight games in the final. In 2023, he helped the national team win the Asia Mixed Team Championships.

Tan Qiang is a Chinese badminton player. In 2015, he won the bronze medal at the Asian Junior Championships in the boys' doubles event partnered with Ren Xiangyu, and in 2016, won the silver medal partnered with He Jiting. In 2017, he became the runner-up at the China International tournament in the mixed doubles event partnered with Xu Ya. In 2023, he helped the national team win the 2023 Asia Mixed Team Championships, and won the postponed Summer World University Games with Ren Xiangyu.

Chen Lu is a Chinese badminton player. In 2016, she won the China International tournament in the mixed doubles event partnered with Wang Sijie, and in 2017, she became the runner-up in the women's doubles event partnered with Zhou Chaomin.

Cai Yanyan is a Chinese badminton player. She won her first international title at the 2017 China International tournament in the women's singles event. Cai was the bronze medalists at the 2017 World Junior Championships and 2019 Asian Championships. In 2023, she helped the national team win the Asia Mixed Team Championships.

Cheng Rui is a former Chinese badminton player.

Feng Chen is a retired Chinese badminton player. She was selected to join the Chinese junior team competed at the 2002 and 2004 Asian Junior Championships, and has collected 2 gold medals from the girls' team event, a gold in the mixed doubles, and a silver in the girls' doubles. Feng then won the mixed team gold medal at the 2004 World Junior Championships, and also clinched the silver medal in the girls' doubles event. In the senior international level, she was the runners-up at the 2004 French and Polish International tournaments. Feng also was the mixed doubles semifinalist at the World Grand Prix tournament, in 2005 China Masters partnered with He Hanbin. At the 2006 World University Championships in China University of Geosciences, Wuhan, she claimed three gold medals in the women's doubles, mixed doubles, and team event.

Di Zijian is Chinese badminton player. Born in Liaoyang, Liaoning, he started practicing badminton at the age of 10 and entered the Liaoning team when he was 14. Di was selected to join the national youth team in 2017, then became the national second team players at the beginning of 2018. He was two times boys' doubles gold medalists at the Asian Junior Championships in 2017 and 2018, also won the mixed team title with the national junior team in 2018. At the World Junior Championships, he helped the team clinch the gold medal in 2017 and 2018, and won the silver medals in the boys' doubles event in 2017 and 2019. He also showed his achievement in the senior tournament level by reaching the final at the 2018 Lingshui China Masters and finished as the runner-up in the men's doubles event. Di won his first BWF World Tour title in 2019 SaarLorLux Open.

Sun Junjie is a Chinese badminton player.

Wang Wei was a former Chinese badminton player from Shanghai. In the junior event, he participated at the 1996 World Junior Championships clinched a gold medal in the mixed doubles event with Lu Ying.

Wang Wenjiao was an Indonesian-born Chinese badminton player and coach known as the "Godfather" of Chinese badminton. After winning a number of national championships in the 1950s, he served for 21 years as head coach of the China national men's badminton team, which under his leadership won 56 individual world titles as well as four Thomas Cups. He was conferred the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Badminton World Federation in 2014, and became the first sportsperson to receive the national title of "People's Role Model" in 2019.

The Macau national badminton team represents Macau SAR, China in international badminton team competitions. Macau participated in the 2019 Badminton Asia Mixed Team Championships, also known as the Tong Yun Kai Cup. They were eliminated in the group stage.

Huang Zhanzhong is a Chinese badminton player. He won the men's doubles title at the 1995 Asian Cup, and was part of Chinese team that won the 1990 Asian Games and 1995 Sudirman Cup. Huang competed in the men's doubles tournament at the 1996 Summer Olympics.

Tang Xianhu is a Indonesia-born Chinese former badminton player and coach. In the early days of his career, Tang was unable to participate in international competitions due to political factors, but he defeated the world's top players many times during overseas visits and exchanges, and was known as the "Uncrowned King" in badminton. He won the Asian Games men's team gold in 1974 and mixed doubles gold in 1978. After retiring, he started coaching in China and Indonesia. Many of the players he coached had won the World Championships and/or Olympic gold medals such as Lin Ying, Wu Dixi, Li Lingwei, Han Aiping, Ji Xinpeng, Xia Xuanze, Sun Jun, Lin Dan, Cai Yun, Fu Haifeng, Alan Budikusuma and Hendrawan. In 2002, he was inducted into the Badminton Hall of Fame.

The Uzbekistan national badminton team represents Uzbekistan in international badminton team competitions. The Uzbekistani junior team have competed in the BWF World Junior Championships mixed team event, which is also called the Suhandinata Cup. The team also competed in the Badminton Asia Junior Championships.

Lei Lanxi is a Chinese badminton player. He won a gold medal at the 2016 BWF World Junior Championships in the mixed team event.
