The 2006 New York State Senate election was held on 7 November 2006 to determine which party would control the New York State Senate for the following two years in the 197th New York State Legislature. All 62 seats in the New York State Senate were up for election and the primary was held on 12 September 2006. Prior to the election, 35 seats were held by Republicans and 27 seats were held by Democrats. The general election saw Democrats gain 2 seats, meaning Republicans maintained their majority in the State Senate. [1] [2]
