Andrea Stella (born 22 February 1971) is an Italian engineer and the current team principal of McLaren F1 Team. [1] He was previously performance engineer and race engineer at Scuderia Ferrari.

Education

Stella graduated in aerospace engineering at La Sapienza University in Rome. [2] [3] In 2000, he completed a PhD in mechanical engineering with an experimental study on fluid dynamics of flames. [3]

Formula One career

Scuderia Ferrari

Stella began his career at Ferrari in 2000 as performance engineer for the test team, before becoming performance engineer for Michael Schumacher (2002–2006) and then Kimi Räikkönen (2007–2008). He moved to become race engineer for Räikkönen (2009) and Fernando Alonso (2010–2014). [2] In 2006, he also worked as track engineer with Valentino Rossi, when the motorbike racer tested with Ferrari with the idea of a prospective move to Formula One. [4]

McLaren Racing

Stella joined McLaren in 2015 as head of race operations, moving to Performance Director in 2018 and racing director in 2019. [2] In the latter role, he formed a triumvirate with James Key as technical director and Piers Thynne as production director, all under team principal Andreas Seidl. [5] [6]

On 13 December 2022, it was announced that Stella would replace Seidl as team principal of McLaren, ahead of the 2023 season. In the 2024 season, Stella led the team to its first World Constructor's Championship win since 1998.

Räikkönen is the most successful Finnish Formula One driver by several metrics, and has the seventh-most podium finishes (103), third-most fastest laps (46), and third-most race starts (349) in Formula One history. He is known for his reserved personality and reluctance to participate in public relations events.

Renault, a French automobile manufacturer, has been associated with Formula One as both team owner and engine manufacturer for various periods since 1977. Fernando Alonso Díaz is a Spanish racing driver, who competes in Formula One for Aston Martin. In endurance racing, Alonso won the 2018–19 FIA World Endurance Championship and is a two-time winner of the 24 Hours of Le Mans with Toyota, and remains the only driver to have won both the World Drivers' Championship and the World Endurance/Sportscar Championship; he also won the 24 Hours of Daytona in 2019 with WTR.

The 2007 FIA Formula One World Championship was the 61st season of FIA Formula One motor racing. It featured the 2007 FIA Formula One World Championship, which began on 18 March and ended on 21 October after seventeen events. The Drivers' Championship was won by Ferrari driver Kimi Räikkönen by one point at the final race of the season, making Räikkönen the third Finnish driver to take the title. An appeal by McLaren regarding the legality of some cars in the final race could have altered the championship standings, but on 16 November, the appeal was rejected by the International Court of Appeal, confirming the championship results. Räikkönen entered the final race in third position in the drivers' standings, but emerged as champion after the chequered flag, a feat first accomplished by Giuseppe Farina in 1950.

Sauber Motorsport AG currently competing in Formula One as Stake F1 Team Kick Sauber and also known simply as Kick Sauber or Sauber, is a Swiss motorsport engineering company. It was founded in 1970 by Peter Sauber, who progressed through hillclimbing and the World Sportscar Championship to reach Formula One in 1993. Sauber operated under their own name from 1993 until 2005 and from 2011 until 2018. They were known as BMW Sauber from 2006 to 2010 and as Alfa Romeo from 2019 to 2023 in partnership deals with BMW and Alfa Romeo, respectively. Sauber returned in 2024 as Stake F1 Team Kick Sauber, and is set to be the Audi works team from 2026 onwards, with the German outfit planning to acquire the Swiss team.

The 2012 FIA Formula One World Championship was the 66th season of FIA Formula One motor racing. It featured the 63rd FIA Formula One World Championship, a motor racing series for Formula One cars, recognised by the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) – the governing body of motorsport – as the highest class of competition for open-wheel racing cars. The championship was contested over twenty rounds, which started in Australia on 18 March and ended in Brazil on 25 November. The 2012 season saw the return of the United States Grand Prix, which was held at the Circuit of the Americas, a purpose-built circuit in Austin, Texas. There have been nine Formula One drivers from Finland who have taken part in races since the championship began in 1950. Three drivers have won the World Drivers' Championship, with Keke Rosberg being the first in 1982. Mika Häkkinen won it in 1998 and retained it in 1999, becoming the first - and so far only - Finnish double world champion. Kimi Räikkönen is the most recent Finnish champion having won the title in 2007. The McLaren MCL33 is a Formula One racing car designed and constructed by McLaren to compete in the 2018 FIA Formula One World Championship. The car was driven by two-time World Drivers' Champion Fernando Alonso and Stoffel Vandoorne, with additional testing and development work carried out by reigning European Formula 3 champion Lando Norris and McLaren's regular test driver Oliver Turvey. The MCL33 is the first car built by McLaren to use a customer Renault engine after the team terminated its engine supply deal with Honda after three years and also first McLaren car to utilize a French-licensed engine manufacturer since the Peugeot-powered MP4/9 in 1994. It made its competitive debut at the Australian Grand Prix. The car was launched with an orange and blue livery designed as a tribute to some of the team's earliest cars. Alonso’s MCL33 is currently on display at the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles, CA, USA.

Andreas Seidl is a German motorsport engineer and manager. He was previously the chief executive officer of Sauber Motorsport, the team principal of McLaren and the team principal of the hybrid Porsche LMP1 program.

Luca Furbatto is an Italian Formula One engineer. He is currently the engineering director at the Aston Martin Formula One team.

The Grand Prix racing history of Scuderia Ferrari dates back to 1947. The team is the most successful team in the history of Formula One racing, having contested every World Championship season since 1950, winning 15 Drivers' Championships and 16 Constructors' Championships.
