The Golden Line(Line 10 & Line 11) is an under-construction rapid transit line of the Delhi Metro. It will connect southern Delhi directly with Indira Gandhi International Airport to relieve the increasing traffic, congestion and pollution on roads. It will start from Terminal 1-IGI Airport, which was previously planned from Delhi Aerocity, and end in Tughlakabad. [2] It will be 25.82 km (16.04 mi) long with 16 stations, out of which four will be elevated and 12 will be underground. Construction began on the line in June 2022, as part of the fourth phase of the Delhi Metro's development, and is expected to be completed by March 2026. [3] [4] [5] [6]
The Golden Line, initially named as Silver Line, was conceptualized by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) under the Phase IV of Delhi Metro's future expansion and development in July 2016. As per the plan, six new lines covering a length of about 104 km (65 mi) have been planned to be added to the metro network, out of which the Golden Line would cover southern Delhi at a length of 20.2 km (12.6 mi). The plans were finalized for implementation by the Government of Delhi in December 2018; this time the length of the Golden Line increased to 23.6 km (14.7 mi). [7] In March 2019, the plans were approved for construction by the Government of India. Thus, land acquisition for Phase IV and Golden Line began from April 2019, and was completed by three years. Construction was supposed to begin from 2021, but was delayed due to the restrictions imposed by the government due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Hence, construction was started by Afcons Infrastructure and Larsen & Toubro in June 2022. [3] [4] It was expected to be completed by 2024/25, which has been extended to March 2026, as of January 2024. [1]
In November 2020, the DMRC changed the alignment of the Golden Line as per the instructions of the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) to circumvent the Qutb Minar and the Mehrauli Archaeological Park, so to avoid any harm to these critical historical sites during construction and operation. [6] As per the initial plan, the line was proposed to be extended to Terminal 1 of Indira Gandhi International Airport, in order to provide commuters a faster and direct link to the airport's premises. The proposal was approved by the Government of Delhi after the DMRC created and showed a Detailed Project Report (DPR) in December 2023, thereby increasing the line's length to 25.82 km (16.04 mi). [8] [9] The name of the line was changed from 'Silver Line' to 'Golden Line' in January 2024. [5] [10]

Indira Gandhi International Airport is the primary international airport serving New Delhi, the capital of India, and the National Capital Region (NCR). The airport, spread over an area of 5,106 acres (2,066 ha), is situated in Palam, Delhi, 15 km (9.3 mi) southwest of the New Delhi Railway Station and 16 km (9.9 mi) from New Delhi city centre.
Delhi has significant reliance on its transport infrastructure. The city has developed a highly efficient public transport system with the introduction of the Delhi Metro, which is undergoing a rapid modernization and expansion since 2006. There are 16.6 million registered vehicles in the city as of 30 June 2014, which is the highest in the world among all cities, most of which do not follow any pollution emission norm, while the Delhi metropolitan region has 11.2 million vehicles. Delhi and NCR lose nearly 42 crore man-hours every month while commuting between home and office through public transport, due to the traffic congestion. Therefore, serious efforts, including a number of transport infrastructure projects, are under way to encourage usage of public transport in the city.
Chandigarh Metro is an approved rapid transit system to serve the Chandigarh Capital Region, which includes Chandigarh and adjacent areas in Punjab and Haryana states of India. In Phase-1, to be progressively built and operationalised between 2027 and 2034, 3 lines will connect tri-cities of Chandigarh, Mohali in Punjab and Panchkula in Haryana. Phase-2, to be constructed after 2034, will connect Pinjore in Haryana and further expand the network in Mohali with 2 more lines. The project, which was initially scrapped in 2017 due to low financial viability, was approved in March 2023 and received formal clearance in July 2024 from the governments of Punjab and Haryana after a Detailed Project Report (DPR) was created.
The Lucknow Metro is a mass rapid transit (MRT) system in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, India. The metro is owned and operated by the Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC). The frequency of the metro's services is around 5 - 7 minutes.
The Airport Express Line or Orange Line is a Delhi Metro line from New Delhi to Yashobhoomi Dwarka Sector - 25, linking Indira Gandhi International Airport. The total length of the line is 22.7 km (14.1 mi), of which 15.7 km (9.8 mi) is underground and 7.0 km (4.3 mi), from Buddha Jayanti Park to Mahipalpur, elevated.
The Kirti Nagar metro station is an interchange station between the Blue Line and Green Line of Delhi Metro. It is one of the eastward terminal stations of the Green Line, the other being Inderlok, and was opened as a part of a small 3.41 km (2.12 mi) branch from this station to Ashok Park Main station on 27 August 2011. This allowed passengers to easily transfer between the Red Line and Blue Line of the network.
Chhatarpur is an elevated station on the Yellow Line of the Delhi Metro. It is located in the Chhatarpur locality of the South West district of Delhi, India. Shree Adya Katyayani Shakti Peeth, popularly known as the Chhatarpur Temple is located near the station.
The Delhi Aerocity metro station is located on the Delhi Airport Express Line of the Delhi Metro. This station is located near the National Highway 8. While the Airport Express Line was opened on 23 February 2011, this station was not opened to the public until Independence Day, Monday 15 August 2011, to allow a buildup of demand.
The Delhi Metro is a rapid transit system that serves Delhi and the adjoining satellite cities of Ghaziabad, Faridabad, Gurugram, Noida, Bahadurgarh, and Ballabhgarh in the National Capital Region of India. The system consists of 10 colour-coded lines serving 256 stations, with a total length of 350.42 kilometres (217.74 mi). It is India's largest and busiest metro rail system and the second-oldest, after the Kolkata Metro. The metro has a mix of underground, at-grade, and elevated stations using broad-gauge and standard-gauge tracks. The metro makes over 4,300 trips daily.
The Indore Metro is a rapid transit system which is under construction for the city of Indore, in the state of Madhya Pradesh, India. The total system consists of 11 corridors (lines) covering a distance of 124 kilometres (77 mi). This project will cost approximately ₹12,000 crore (US$1.4 billion). The cost per km will be 182 crores and total cost is 15,000 crores. The metro system will be elevated, underground and on ground. The Indore Metro project has been subject to serious contestation due to the inappropriate shifting of Seismic zone-II to Seismic zone-IV category which has led to increase in budgetary cost for the entire project.
Nagpur Metro is a rapid transit system for the city of Nagpur, Maharashtra, India. Phase I of the metro project cost was estimated to cost ₹8,650 crore but the final project cost incurred was ₹9,279 crore (US$1.1 billion). In February 2014, the Government of Maharashtra gave approval for the Metro project, while the Government of India's Ministry of Urban Development had given "In Principle" approval for the project. On 20 August 2014, Union Cabinet gave approval for the development of the project, and the Prime Minister laid the foundation stone on 21 August. Construction began on 31 May 2015, with trial run beginning on 30 September 2017.
Hisar Airport, officially known as Maharaja Agrasen International Airport is a DGCA-licensed public airport serving Hisar in Haryana state of India. It is located 5 kilometres (3.1 mi) northeast of the city center on NH-9. The airport is planned to be upgraded to an international airport by 2030. It will eventually see the development of a new MRO, aerospace university, aerospace and defense manufacturing industrial zone, logistics and food parks, etc. over an area spread across 10,000 acres (4,000 ha). In 2021, the total cost of planned upgrade in 3 phases, including the actual spend and future approved allocations, is nearly ₹5,200 crore.
The Noida Metro is a rapid transit system connecting the twin cities of Noida and Greater Noida in Gautam Buddh Nagar, Uttar Pradesh, India. The metro network consists of one line, with a total length of 29.7 kilometres (18.5 mi) serving 21 stations. The system has all elevated stations using standard-gauge tracks.
The Bhubaneswar Metro is a rapid transit system which is under construction for the twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack in Odisha, India. In the first phase, a 30 km (19 mi) metro trunk route will be created from Trisulia in Cuttack to the Biju Patnaik International Airport in Bhubaneswar. Plans are in place to eventually expand to Khordha and Puri.
The Pink Line is a metro rail line of the Delhi Metro, a rapid transit system in Delhi, India. It consists of 38 metro stations from Majlis Park to Shiv Vihar, both in North Delhi.
The Magenta Line is a metro rail line of the Delhi Metro, a rapid transit system in Delhi, India and the first driverless metro in India. The line, which trundles across South Delhi and is majorly underground, spans 37.46 kilometers (23.28 mi) and consists of 25 metro stations: 10 are elevated and the rest are underground. Unlike the Airport Metro Express, this line directly serves Terminal 1 of the Indira Gandhi International Airport.
The Brown Line is an approved line of the Delhi Metro. It will provide improved direct connections to eastern, southern and south-eastern Delhi with the Indira Gandhi International Airport and Faridabad to decrease the increasing traffic, congestion and pollution on roads. It will act as a link line, by joining four lines–Violet, Pink, Magenta and Golden lines with each other. It will start from Lajpat Nagar and will end in Saket G-Block. It will be 7.96 km (4.95 mi) long with eight stations, all of which will be elevated. The line was approved by the Government of India and the foundation stone was laid for its construction by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 14 March 2024, and work is yet to begin, as part of the fourth phase of the Delhi Metro's development. The line is slated to be completed by March 2026.
The IGI Airport Terminal 1 Metro Station is located on the Magenta Line of the Delhi Metro. It was part of Phase III of Delhi Metro. It was opened to public on 29 May 2018.
Bijwasan railway station, on Delhi–Jaipur line lies immediate southwest of Delhi's main airport the IGI Airport, in Bijwasan in South Delhi in India. The station, part of Delhi Suburban Railway, is being upgraded to the world class regional multimodal interchange for the IGI airport by 2024. It will connect to the Haryana Orbital Rail Corridor in south at Patli railway station. It will be the major railway connectivity hub for the IGI Airport along with the Aerocity connectivity hub.
The Ghaziabad–Jewar Regional Rapid Transit System is a proposed 72.44 km (45.01 mi) semi high-speed rail and regional transit corridor that will connect the National Capital Region cities of Ghaziabad and Noida with Noida International Airport at Jewar. It is the fourth of the four rapid rail corridors planned under the first phase of the RapidX project managed by the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC). It will be built to allow a maximum speed of 180 km/h (110 mph), and the distance between Ghaziabad, Noida and the airport will be covered in less than 40–50 minutes. The project is estimated to cost approximately ₹20,640 crore. It will originate from Ghaziabad, run through Noida, Greater Noida, YEIDA City and end at the Noida International Airport at Jewar. It will have 12 stations and two depots on both the northern and southern ends of the corridor.
