Route 36 is a state highway in Monmouth County, New Jersey, United States. The 24.40-mile (39.27 km) long route, shaped as a backwards C, begins at an intersection with Garden State Parkway and County Route 51 in Eatontown and runs east to Long Branch. From Long Branch, the route follows the Atlantic Ocean north to Sea Bright and turns west, running to the south of the Raritan Bay. Route 36 ends in Keyport at an interchange with the Garden State Parkway and Route 35. It varies in width from a six-lane divided highway to a two-lane undivided road. The route is signed east–west between Eatontown and Long Branch and north–south between Long Branch and Keyport.
Locust is an unincorporated community located within Middletown Township in Monmouth County, New Jersey, United States. It is situated along the north banks of the Navesink River and Claypit Creek. The area consists of mostly medium-to-large sized houses throughout the hilly terrain of this part of the township. The Oceanic Bridge connects Locust with Rumson to the south.

Tennent is an unincorporated community located within Manalapan Township in Monmouth County, New Jersey, United States. Considered to be the historic center of Manalapan Township, Tennent is home to the Old Tennent Church and Old Tennent Cemetery. William Tennent served as pastor at the church for over 40 years. Tennent was also the center of a historic community of African Americans dating back to the early nineteenth century. The location of Tennent is located at the modern intersection of County Route 522 and Tennent Road and is near the limits of Monmouth Battlefield State Park.
Prospertown is an unincorporated community located within the New Jersey townships of Jackson and Plumsted in Ocean County and Upper Freehold in Monmouth County. The community is home to Prospertown Lake and is adjacent to Six Flags Great Adventure, both located on County Route 537. The center of the community is located at the intersection of CR 537, Hawkin Road, and Emleys Hill Road. Most of the area consists of pine forests but there are some homes along the roads in the area.
New Canton is an unincorporated community located along the border of Robbinsville Township in Mercer County and Upper Freehold Township in Monmouth County, New Jersey, United States. The area was once known as Cabbagetown and has been settled since the 18th century. The settlement is located at the intersection of Old York Road and New Canton-Stone Tavern Road just north of Interstate 195's interchange 8. The Upper Freehold side of the area contains farmland and new housing developments while the Robbinsville side features new commercial warehouse buildings including an Amazon.com Fulfillment Center opened in July 2014.

Claytons Corner is an unincorporated community located within Marlboro Township in Monmouth County, New Jersey, United States. The community is located along Gordons Corner Road near its intersections with Church Road and Robertsville Road and is completely suburban in nature as the area is part of houses in planned communities. The last remaining farm in Clayton's Corner belonged to the Yoncak family.
Cooleys Corner is an unincorporated community located within Upper Freehold Township in Monmouth County, New Jersey, United States. The site of the settlement is within the Assunpink Wildlife Management Area, a New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection Division of Fish and Wildlife-operated preserved area in Monmouth and Mercer counties along the Assunpink Creek. Before the creation of the Assunpink Lake in the 1970s, the area consisted of farmland located at the intersection of Clarksburg Road and Imlaystown-Hightstown Road. Some farmland is still present in the area but is now mostly used by hunters. The main boat ramp to Assunpink Lake is located along the former Imlaystown-Hightstown Road.

The community is one of the four main built-up areas of Sea Bright and is a former stop on the New Jersey Southern Railroad. It is located along Route 36 between the CR 520 drawbridge to Rumson and Sandy Hook on a narrow strip of land between the Shrewsbury River and the Atlantic Ocean. The Sea Bright–Monmouth Beach Seawall passes through the neighborhood and Navesink Beach.
North Long Branch is an unincorporated community located within Long Branch in Monmouth County, New Jersey, United States. The community is situated in the northern portion of the city and is physically located between Troutmans Creek and Ocean Boulevard. Centered about the intersection of Joline Avenue and Long Branch Avenue, most of the area is made up of single-family houses except for some schools, apartment complexes, and the city's sewage treatment plant.

Located on the north side of the borough, Oceanic contains most of Rumson's commercial businesses mainly along Bingham Avenue and River Road. Bingham Avenue connects directly to the Oceanic Bridge over the Navesink River to the Middletown Township community of Locust Point.
Sharon is an unincorporated community located within Upper Freehold Township in Monmouth County, New Jersey, United States. Located at the intersection of Herbert Road and Sharon Station Road, the settlement is the site of a former stop on the Pemberton and Hightstown Railroad. Except for a few single-family homes in the area, most of the area is farmland. The railroad has since been abandoned and is being converted to the Union Transportation Trail, a rail trail. Sharon is the current northern terminus of the trail.
Smocks Corner or Smocks Corners is an unincorporated community located within Marlboro Township in Monmouth County, New Jersey, United States. Located at the intersection of Pleasant Valley Road and Conover Road, the area is mostly residences with some open space and farmland. It was called "Smocks Corner" because the Smock Family had houses in that area, both sides of the street back in the 1700s.

West Farms is an unincorporated community located within Howell Township in Monmouth County, New Jersey, United States. The settlement is centered on the intersection of West Farms Road and Casino Drive, located to the west of Farmingdale and to the north of the Manasquan Reservoir. It was once home Jewish farmers who settled there in the early 20th century. The rural area is mostly made up of wooded areas with some houses and churches dotted along the two aforementioned roads. Numerous small farms are also located throughout the area.
Ellisdale is an unincorporated community located along the border of North Hanover Township in Burlington County and Upper Freehold Township in Monmouth County, in New Jersey, United States. The community is centered about the intersection of Province Line Road and Hill Road / Ellisdale-Crosswicks Road. The Crosswicks Creek runs to the north of the settlement and the nearby Ellisdale Fossil Site takes its name from Ellisdale.
