The 1963 Dallas mayoral election was held on Tuesday April 2, 1963, with incumbent Earle Cabell being re-elected with 66.6 percent of the vote. During this term of Cabell's mayoralty, President John F. Kennedy would be assassinated in Dallas on November 22, 1963. Cabell resigned as mayor on February 3, 1964 in order to run for Congress. He would go on to win the election and unseat Republican incumbent Bruce Alger.

William Lewis Cabell was an American engineer, lawyer, businessman, and politician who served as the 14th, 16th and 20th mayor of Dallas. Prior to that, he was a senior officer of the Confederate States Army who commanded infantry in the Western and Trans-Mississippi theaters of the American Civil War.

The Confederate War Memorial was a 65 foot (20 m)-high monument that pays tribute to soldiers and sailors from Texas who served with the Confederate States of America (CSA) during the American Civil War. Erik Jonsson was elected mayor in a special election in 1964 following the vacancy of Earle Cabell due to his election to the U.S. House of Representatives. J. Erik Jonsson would run for election in 1965 and was elected mayor with 73.6% of the vote.
