Virginia Cafe, sometimes known colloquially as "VC", [2] is a restaurant and bar in Portland, Oregon.
While the origin of the café's name is unknown, the original Virginia Cafe was opened in 1914 at 1014 SW Stark Street by three Greek immigrant brothers (Theodore, William and Christopher Dussin) after they were laid off from their jobs. The brothers opened a second location at 725 SW Park Avenue in downtown Portland in 1922, which lasted until 2007 when it was replaced by a $150 million, 35-story office tower built by Tom Moyer's TMT Development firm. During Prohibition, when alcohol could not be served, the café made most of its money by selling sandwiches and soups to a lunch crowd. Ownership of the business was passed down to Christopher's son, Constantine "Guss" Dussin, then eventually Asa Arnsberg, a Portland real estate investor. [2] Both restaurants reportedly "thrived" during the 1940s and 1950s. [3]

Stumptown Coffee Roasters is a coffee roaster and retailer based in Portland, Oregon, United States. The chain's flagship café and roastery opened in 1999. Three other cafes, a roastery and a tasting annex have since opened in Portland, as well as locations in Seattle, New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, and New Orleans. Stumptown is owned by Peet's Coffee, which in turn is owned by JAB Holding Company.
Old Town Chinatown is the official Chinatown of the Northwest section of Portland, Oregon. The U.S. restaurants are owned by OSF International, based in Portland, Oregon, while the Canadian restaurants are owned by The Old Spaghetti Factory Canada Ltd. In 2003, the U.S. company alone had 45 restaurants, in 14 states and Japan, and sales of $105 million. The U.S. firm also operated an Old Spaghetti Factory in Hamburg, Germany, from 1983 to 1993, but that was its only European location.
The Northwest District is a densely populated retail and residential neighborhood in the northwest section of Portland, Oregon. Craftsman-style and Old Portland-style houses are packed tightly together with grand old apartment buildings and sleek new condominiums, within walking distance of restaurants, bars, and shops. The Portland Streetcar's first line terminates there, connecting the district to the Pearl District, Downtown Portland and points south to the South Waterfront, and several TriMet bus lines also serve the district.
Esparza's Tex Mex Cafe, or simply Esparza's, was a Tex-Mex restaurant in Portland, Oregon, in the United States. Opened by Martha and Joe Esparza in 1990, the restaurant operated for more than 24 years before closing in January 2014. Its unusual menu included buffalo tostadas, ground ostrich and nopalitos, several varieties of tongue, beef brisket, and more traditional options such as enchiladas, quesadillas, tacos and tamales. Esparza's was one of Portland's most popular restaurants during the 1990s and was named "Restaurant of the Year" by The Oregonian in 1992.
Backspace was a coffee shop, gallery, Internet café, and all-ages music venue located in the Old Town Chinatown neighborhood of Portland, Oregon, in the United States. The venue opened in mid 2003 and closed in 2013.
The Parish was a Cajun, Louisiana Creole, and seafood restaurant in Portland, Oregon's Pearl District, in the United States. It was opened by Tobias Hogan and Ethan Powell in 2012, and became known for its oysters. In 2015, the restaurant was split in half, and one side of the space began serving brunch, lunch, and happy hour as the Palmetto Cafe. The Palmetto was converted into a private event space and pop-up restaurant in February 2016, and The Parish closed abruptly in September of that year.
Grüner was an "Alpine" restaurant in Portland, Oregon. The restaurant was opened by Chris Israel in late 2009, and closed after December 31, 2015. Grüner's mainstay burger was thought by many to be Portland's best, and it was reintroduced at The Loyal Legion when the former Executive Chef of Grüner took over that venue's bar.

Clyde Common is a restaurant and market in Portland, Oregon, United States. The business opened in 2007. In 2020, Clyde Commons was closed temporarily due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but reopened in July with outdoor dining and as a market. The bar and restaurant are now known as Clyde Tavern, and the part of the former dining area is called Common Market.

The Roxy is a diner serving American cuisine in Portland, Oregon, United States. Located along downtown Portland's Southwest Harvey Milk Street, the restaurant was established in 1994. The Roxy is popular as a late-night food destination and has a diverse clientele. Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, the diner operated 24 hours a day, except on Mondays. The Roxy has been described as "iconic" and a "landmark", and it is known for being an LGBT-friendly establishment because of its employees' community involvement and its location within the historic hub of LGBT culture and nightlife. Following a forced six-month closure due to the pandemic, the diner opened under new public health and safety guidelines in November 2020.
Delta Cafe is a Southern, cajun, and soul food restaurant in Portland, Oregon's Woodstock neighborhood, in the United States. Anastasia Corya and Anton Pace opened the restaurant in 1995. They sold Delta in 2007 to open another Southern restaurant, Miss Delta, with two of the cafe's cooks. Frequented by Reed College students and neighborhood residents, Delta Cafe has been recognized as a favorite local comfort food destination and has a cocktail bar called Delta Lounge. In 2016, a mural was painted on the restaurant's exterior as part of a neighborhood beautification project.
Byways Cafe was a diner in Portland, Oregon's Pearl District, in the United States. Owners Collin McFadden and Megan Brinkley opened the restaurant in 1999, serving American breakfast and brunch comfort foods such as corned beef hash, omelets, and pancakes. Guy Fieri visited for a 2007 episode of the Food Network's Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives. Byways received a generally positive reception and was voted the city's "best brunch spot" by readers of The Oregonian in 2016. It closed in late 2019, after owners were unable to reach a lease agreement with the landlord.
The Pied Cow Coffeehouse, or simply the Pied Cow, is a coffeehouse and hookah lounge in Portland, Oregon's Sunnyside neighborhood, in the United States. The restaurant has an "eclectic" interior decor and, in addition to coffee drinks and hookah, serves fondue, desserts, mezze platters, and wine. It is known for being reportedly haunted by a woman named Lydia and has received a generally positive reception. The Pied Cow appears in Robyn Miller's 2013 film The Immortal Augustus Gladstone, which also featured a cameo appearance by restaurant owner Jimmy Chen, and on the artwork for Kyle Craft's 2018 album Full Circle Nightmare.

The restaurant is one of Portland's oldest, established in 1922, and continues to operate under the ownership of the Mui family. Serving Chinese cuisine such as Mongolian beef, General Tso's chicken, chop suey, and egg foo young, the Republic Cafe has been described as a "staple" of the neighborhood and the city's Chinese American history. Ming Lounge is among the city's oldest bars and has been described as "seedy".
Papi Chulo's is a restaurant in Portland, Oregon's Pearl District, in the United States. The taqueria was opened by restauranteur Ramzy Hattar in December 2019, with Antonio Javier Palma Caceres as chef and Davide Bricca overseeing cocktails. The trio had previously worked together at River Pig and Two Wrongs, two neighboring establishments also owned by Hattar. Papi Chulo's serves Mexican cuisine such as tacos, burritos, nachos, birria, margaritas, and micheladas. The business continued to operate delivery and takeout services during the COVID-19 pandemic, and in November 2020 confirmed plans to open a second restaurant in northeast Portland.
Cricket Cafe is a restaurant in Portland, Oregon's Sunnyside neighborhood, in the United States. Previously owned by Dan Bartkowski, the cafe closed unexpectedly in June 2017. Gordon Feighner and Katie Prevost reopened the restaurant months later.
