The 2018 California State Assembly election were held on Tuesday, November 6, 2018, with the primary election being held on June 5, 2018. Voters in the 80 districts of the California State Assembly elected their representatives. The elections coincided with those for other offices, including for governor and the California State Senate.
California's State Assembly districts are numbered 1st through 80th, generally in north-to-south order.
The California Democratic Party flipped at least five Republican seats: the 16th, 38th, 40th, 74th, and 76th districts. These victories gave the Democrats a three-fourths supermajority of at least 60 seats, building upon the two-thirds supermajority that they gained in the previous election cycle. The race in the 77th assembly district between Republican incumbent Brian Maienschein and Democrat Sunday Gover is still undecided.
The California Democratic Party is the state branch of the United States Democratic Party in the state of California. The party is headquartered in Sacramento, and is led by acting-Chair Alex Gallardo-Rooker.
The California Republican Party (CAGOP) is the California affiliate of the United States Republican Party. The party is based in Sacramento, and is led by Chairwoman Jessica Patterson.
California's 16th State Assembly district is one of 80 California State Assembly districts. It is currently represented by Democrat Rebecca Bauer-Kahan of Orinda.

The Modern Whig Party is a political party in the United States founded in 2007. The party describes itself as a mainstream, middle-of-the-road grassroots movement representing voters who do not strictly accept Republican and Democratic positions. The party's general platform supports fiscal responsibility, strong national defense, and integrity and pragmatism in government. Members of the party have won a handful of local elections, but did so under other party labels or as independents. In recent years the party has not nominated candidates for any major office. The Modern Whig Party underwent a major overhaul of its structure and leadership in late 2014 and re-launched in the early spring of 2015. The Reform Party of the United States of America (RPUSA), generally known as the Reform Party USA or the Reform Party, is a political party in the United States, founded in 1995 by Ross Perot. |
