Comedy Central is a Dutch pay television channel based on the American channel of the same name. The channel is available on cable, digital terrestrial, IPTV, and satellite operators in the Netherlands. It broadcasts many imports as well as original programming.
The Box was originally a Dutch music channel, which allowed viewers to vote on music videos. It launched in June 1995 and was founded by a joint venture between Video Jukebox Network and Quote Media. [1] The Box was taken over by the German music television network VIVA Media in 2002. [2] In June 2004, The Box was acquired by MTV Networks Benelux of Viacom. On 15 December 2006 The Box's airtime was shortened, coinciding with Nickelodeon's move from the channel Talpa (now RTL 8) to The Box channel. The Box was replaced by The Box Comedy with only a program block of The Box during the night. [3] [4]
The Box Comedy was a temporary television channel that was launched in the Netherlands on 15 December 2006. It replaced the music video channel The Box, which used to broadcast music 24 hours a day and the playlist was composed by televoting. [5] It was intended to ease the transition from The Box to Comedy Central. The Box Comedy broadcast shows like SpongeBob SquarePants , Avatar: The Last Airbender , Wayside and My Life As A Teenage Robot . It time-shared with Nickelodeon. Nickelodeon broadcasting in daytime and The Box Comedy in the evenings and the night.
During the night the channel continued to broadcast R&B music under the name The Box. On 30 April 2007, the transition was completed when Comedy Central took control of its airtime.
Comedy Central launched on 30 April 2007, replacing former channel The Box Comedy. [6] Between 2007 and 2011 Comedy Central aired between 8:00 pm and 5:00 am. The programming began after the programming of Nickelodeon.
In October 2008 Comedy Central launched a 24-hour digital sister channel, Comedy Central Family, a close collaboration between MTV Networks and Endemol. The channel was first offered by cable operator Ziggo. After this, other providers followed gradually.
On 4 November 2010 it was announced that Comedy Central would receive more airtime. Comedy Central ceased timesharing with Nickelodeon on 1 January 2011, when Comedy Central moved to the TMF channel. On that channel Comedy Central is broadcasting 15 hours a day, between 15:00 and 06:00 (CET). It replaced TMF in its entirety in 2011. During mornings and early afternoons Kindernet was broadcast between 06:00 and 15:00 (CET). [7]
From 1 October 2012 to the present, Comedy Central is broadcasting 21 hours a day, between 09:00 and 06:00 (CET). In the early morning hours Kindernet was broadcast on the same channel between 06:00 and 09:00 (CET). [8]
As of 3 April 2012 Comedy Central is also available in HD. [9]
Since 1 November 2013, Comedy Central is broadcasting 24 hours a day, replacing Kindernet between 06:00 and 09:00 (CET). [10]
From November 2011 the digital channel Comedy Central Extra is broadcast by cable company Ziggo. These broadcasts include the American satirical program The Daily Show and stand-up shows. On 10 November 2022, it was announced that Comedy Central Extra would close in the Netherlands on 31 December 2022. [11]
On 1 October 2011, Comedy Central underwent a rebranding for the new logo. In 2012 the channel started with HD broadcasts, beginning on April 3, 2012, at UPC and from 2 July 2012 at Ziggo. It is broadcast increasingly in native HD on Comedy Central.
The voice-over since the launch of the channel in 2007 and since the rebrand in 2011 is provided by Joost Griffioen.
Comedy Central Family closed on 31 May 2018. However, some of its programmes moved to Comedy Central Extra. [12]
On 2 April 2019, Comedy Central underwent a rebranding for the new logo in Comedy Sans 2018-2019 Era.

Television in the Netherlands was officially introduced in 1951. In addition to the general Nickelodeon programmes, original productions such as ZOOP, Het Huis Anubis, and SuperNick are also broadcast. The Dutch Kids' Choice Awards were presented in three years, featuring nominees that are relevant to the Dutch In 2010, the US Kids' Choice Awards aired, which included categories for the Netherlands and Belgium inserted into the broadcast.
Ziggo Sport Totaal is a Dutch premium television service operated by Ziggo and owned by VodafoneZiggo, a joint venture between Liberty Global and Vodafone. Ziggo Sport Totaal launched as Sport1 with its sister service Film1 on 1 February 2006 and replaced the Canal+ Netherlands channels. Film1 was sold to Sony Pictures Television on 21 July 2015, while Sport1 remained Liberty Global-owned. At launch the service consisted of two main channels, six extra channels and one HD simulcast of the first main channel. On 2 February 2009 the number of extra channels was reduced to four. The extra channels only broadcast when necessary to live broadcast multiple sport events at the same time. The service was rebranded to Ziggo Sport Totaal on 12 November 2015.
Nickelodeon is a Belgian television channel that is derived from the Dutch Nickelodeon. The channel started in the summer of 2009 when it got its own programming. Via the satellite, the Dutch version is still being broadcast.

Disney XD is a Dutch children's television channel owned by The Walt Disney Company. It broadcasts 14 hours a day, time-sharing with Dutch TV station Veronica, and is primarily aimed at children roughly between the ages of 7 and 15. The channel used to have a pay television 24-hour feed that was distributed throughout the Netherlands and Belgium (Flanders); however, it was closed down on 31 July 2018. Viewers in Belgium (Wallonia) and Luxembourg received Disney XD France, until that feed was later shut down in 2020.

TV 538 is a music television channel that airs music videos and live coverage of its radio broadcasts. Dutch radio station Radio 538 launched the TV channel on 4 July 2011. The channel is owned by Talpa Network. It broadcasts 24 hours a day and airs across the Netherlands.
MTV Music 24 was a Pan-European music television channel operated by ViacomCBS Networks EMEAA. The channel was available in multiple countries across Europe. The programming consists of non-stop music videos 24-hours a day. The channel first launched in the Netherlands and Flanders in 2011. Since then the channel has rolled out across many parts of Europe including Germany and it is available in South Africa. In March 2020, the channel launched in Poland replacing the version of MTV Music Polska.

Viaplay TV is a Dutch commercial television channel owned by Talpa Network through Talpa TV. The channel was launched as SBS9 on 1 January 2015 at 12:00 CET with a movie marathon. The channel can be received via all television providers in the Netherlands. Other channels of the group in the Netherlands are SBS6, Net5 and Veronica.
ONS is a Dutch commercial television channel owned by Bureauvijftig, which is dedicated to viewers aged 50 years or older. ONS's main target is the older audience. ONS airs footage from the forties to the eighties. Each month a specific theme is on the channel. Topics such as the Dutch East Indies, Netherlands Waterland, railroads, mills, work, food and household are broadcast. The channel launched as NostalgieNet on 1 January 2006 and changed its name into ONS on 13 September 2015. On 1 January 2020, Bureauvijftig took over ONS from Just Media Group. ONS is available in HD through Ziggo since 10 February 2022.
Paramount Network is a Dutch free-to-cable television channel in the Netherlands, based on the American rebranded Paramount Network. The television channels launched as Spike on 1 October 2015. It was the third Spike channel next to the US and UK version of the channel. The television channel aimed at an audience of mainly men. Initially it only broadcast daily between 21:00 and 2:30, time-sharing with Nickelodeon. As of 12 December 2016 the channel is broadcasting 24 hours a day in the Netherlands. Until 6 January 2021, the channel was also available in Flanders. On 24 May 2022, the channel was renamed by Paramount Network.
Ziggo Sport is a sports television channel in the Netherlands, operated by Ziggo and owned by VodafoneZiggo. It is only available for Ziggo subscribers and broadcasts a variety of sports with a focus on major sporting events, a weekly talk show called "Peptalk," and sports-related films and documentaries. It also has a paid counterpart, Ziggo Sport Totaal, which can also be received by non-Ziggo subscribers. The channel started with a repeating promotional film on 2 November 2015, and officially launched on 12 November 2015.
