Most visitors to Ecuador can enter the country without a visa. However, visitors from certain countries must first obtain a visa in advance before being allowed to enter.

Citizens of most countries may stay up to 90 days without a valid visa. All visitors must hold a national passport valid for 6 months, (except citizens of Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Paraguay, Peru & Uruguay who can also enter Ecuador with a national ID card). [1]

Visa required countries

As of July 5, 2024, travelers required to obtain a visa to visit Ecuador can apply through the government portal. Nationals of the following 39 countries must obtain a visa to travel to Ecuador. [1] [2] [3]

1 - A visa is not required if holding an approval code.
2 - Expired passports or other ID documentation accepted. Due to the crisis in Venezuela, the government is offering citizens special visas (including humanitarian and temporary permits) to enter the country.

Galapagos

All visitors to Galápagos Islands must obtain a Transit Control Card at the airport for a fee. [19]
Visitors may pre-register for the Transit Control Card online, to save some time, but they will still be required to complete the process at the airport. [20]

It is issued by the Registro Civil, Identificación y Cedulación in Ecuador, and the Minister of Foreign Affair Embassies & Consulates abroad. The Ecuadorian passport is a type of Andean passport, allowing for free rights of movement and residence in any of the Andean Community members. The Ecuador passport is normally issued for 10 years and has the benefit of having "visa-free" status for Andean Community and Mercosur members nations, and several Centro America nations.

Visitors not holding return / onward tickets could be refused entry. Naturalized Venezuelan citizens, must hold in addition to their passport and National Identity Card, the original of the official decree of their naturalization issued by the Venezuelan government.
