Cavendish Square is a mid-sized shopping center situated in central Claremont, in the Southern Suburbs of Cape Town.
The center was, at the time of being built, the largest upscale shopping center to open in Cape Town, and was a project of the now-shuttered Stuttafords department store chain.[ citation needed ]
Original Cavendish Square tenants included a full-line Stuttaford's store, a Greatermans department store, whose space was later taken by Garlicks. The centre opened September 7, 1972. [1] [2] [3] It is a popular retail destination in the area, offering a wide range of shops, boutiques, restaurants, and entertainment options.[ citation needed ]
Current anchors include Woolworths, Cotton On, H&M, Mr Price, Clicks, Pick n Pay, Sportsmans Warehouse, and an Outdoor Boulevard Market. It also includes restaurants like Spur Steak Ranches, KFC, Steers, Debonairs Pizza, Burger King, Simply Asia, Col'Cacchio, Fishaways, Woolworths Now Now, and the upcoming Nu Metro cinema complex, [4] as the Ster-Kinekor cinema was closed permanently on June 13, 2025 due to Old Mutual not renewing it’s lease with the cinema company. [5] It also hosts the Made in the Cape artisans market. [6] The investment firm Old Mutual, through their subsidiary Old Mutual Property, are the current owners of Cavendish Square. [7]
