Miss Grand Sicily is an Italian regional female beauty pageant, [1] [2] [3] founded in 2019 by an Augusta-based event organizer, Gianni Saija. [4] The winners of the contest represent the region of Sicily in the Miss Grand Italy, [1] [2] a national preliminary pageant for Miss Grand International. [5] [6]

Contents

Since the inception of the Miss Grand Italy pageant, Sicily candidates have never won the contest yet. The highest placement they obtained was the top 10 finalist won in 2020 by a regional finalist, Camilla Checchi; however, other placements they reached remain unclarified due to a lack of national competition results publicized by both regional and national organizers. [7]

History

After Miss Grand Italy's director, Giuseppe Puzio, began franchising the regional competitions to local organizers in 2019, the license for the Sicily region was granted to a local organizer, Gianni Saija. [4] Several local pageants were then organized to select the finalists for the region-level contest, [8] [9] [10] which later happened on 29 August 2019, at the Piazza delle Grazie in Augusta, [11] and a model Maria Giorgia Accolla was named the winner. [4] From 2020 to 2022, the competition license was taken over by Massimo Pantano, [12] [13] who is the chairperson of Massimo Pantano Model Agency, [14] and was then transferred to Giuseppe Caggegi in 2023. Besides the main winner, some runners-up were also sent to compare in the national pageant. [4] [16]

The pageant has been being managed by a Benevento-based event organizer MUPI SRL., chaired by Giuseppe Puzio, since its establishment.

Miss Grand Italy 2022 was the fourth edition of the Miss Grand Italy beauty pageant, held from 14 – 18 September 2022 at Grand Hotel Pianeta Maratea, Maratea in the Province of Potenza. Thirty-nine contestants chosen by various local organizers through their regional pageant competed for the title, of which an eighteen-year-old girl Miriam Malerba from Apulia was named the winner. Malerba later represented the country at the international competition, Miss Grand International 2022, held in Bali and Jakarta, Indonesia on 25 October. but got non-placement.

Miss Grand Italy 2023 was the fifth edition of the Miss Grand Italy pageant, held on 11 June 2023, at the Grand Hotel Pianeta Maratea, in the Province of Potenza. Forty-five candidates from different regions of the country competed for the title, of whom a 24-year-old Venezuelan-Italian professional model representing Aosta Valley, Andrea Zanettin, was named the main winner, while a 14-year-old girl from Naples, Aurora Fretta, was announced the winner of the Mascot category.
