Miss Grand International 2016 was the fourth Miss Grand International pageant, [1] held at the Westgate International Theater in Las Vegas, Nevada, United States, on October 25, 2016 [1] [2] [3] the first time the contest was held outside Thailand. Candidates from seventy-four countries and territories competed for the title. [1] At the end of the event Claire Elizabeth Parker, Miss Grand International 2015 of Australia crowned Ariska Putri Pertiwi of Indonesia as her successor, [4] [5] [6] making her the first Asian candidate to win the title. [7] Meanwhile, the first to fourth vice-miss titles was awarded to the representatives of the Philippines, Thailand, Puerto Rico, and the United States, respectively. [1] [8] [9]
The pageant's grand final was hosted by an American television personality, Brian J. White, and was broadcast to audiences worldwide via the pageant YouTube channel and the official Facebook page. [2]
At Miss Grand International 2016, contestants from each country are scheduled to arrive at McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas, Nevada. between October 8–9, 2016. The contest organized a shuttle service from the airport to the hotel, Westgate. Las Vegas Resort and Casino Las Vegas by the contestant registration process. Including a sash handing event for representatives of each country has been held in this hotel as well. [10] [11] Then, on October 10, 2016, a press conference for the contest was held at City Hall in Las Vegas, Nevada. Each entrant will have the opportunity to introduce themselves and give a brief statement about the contest or other issues in front of all press conference participants. [2]
After that, on October 11–13, 2016, all contestants visited other attractions and landmarks within the city and nearby areas such as Grand Canyon, Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area and Hoover Dam [12] [13] Then on October 14, 2016, the Swimsuit Competition was held at the hotel's swimming pool. The winners of this best swimwear contest were announced in the final round. [13] [14] [15] and the next day All of the contestants attended the William Carr's Photography charity red carpet fashion event to raise funds for Veterans in the United States.
On October 16, 2016 the Best National Costume Contest was held at the Fremont Street Experience in downtown Las Vegas. The contestant who receives the most votes from Facebook users around the world will receive the best national costume award. The winner was announced in the final contest on October 25, 2016. Of all seventy-four participating candidates, only eleven were determined through the Miss Grand national pageant, including the representatives of Australia, [18] the Dominican Republic, [19] Japan, [20] Myanmar, [21] Netherlands, [22] Nigeria, [23] South Africa, [24] Spain, [25] Sri Lanka, [26] Thailand, [27] and United States, [28] while the candidates from Albania, Cambodia, Kosovo, Namibia, and Nepal who were also named the country representatives for this year edition on the Miss Grand national stages, did not enter the international tournament for different reasons, [29] [30] [31] such as Heng Chantha of Cambodia and Zeenus Lama of Nepal who unabled to compete due to visa issues. Initially, eighty-seven candidates confirmed their participants but only seventy-six of them literally entered the pageant, while the remaining withdrew. However, two of the entered candidates, Arna Ýr Jónsdóttir of Iceland and Victoria Ericsson of Sweden, later withdrew during the pageant camp due to a conflict with the organizer and health problems, respectively. Miss Grand International also known as Miss Grand is an international beauty pageant franchise that is based in Thailand. It consists of the annual national pageant Miss Grand Thailand, as well as the international competition Miss Grand International, to which participating rights are licensed to organizers in other countries. The franchise has been owned and run by a Thai stock exchange-listed company with the same name, also known as MGI PCL, since its inception in 2013, with Nawat Itsaragrisil as the president.
Miss Grand South Africa is an annual female beauty pageant in South Africa founded in 2015 by Commonwealth Pageant South Africa, led by Anel de Swardt, aiming to select the country representative to compete in its parent contest Miss Grand International. The license was transferred to Zee World in 2016, and later to Maggy-Dee Productions, led by Miss Grand South Africa 2015 "Lenie Pieterse" who currently owns and runs the contest since 2017.

The contest was held twice in 2016 and 2018, after that the Sri Lankan candidates at Miss Grand International were appointed instead.
Miss Grand Honduras is a national beauty pageant in Honduras, founded in 2022 by a chairperson of AV Productions, Amelia Vega. The winner represents the country at its parent contest Miss Grand International. Previously in 2013 to 2015, the license belonged to the Miss Honduras organization.
Miss Grand Dominican Republic is a female national beauty pageant in the Dominican Republic, founded in 2016 by a Dominican American business person, Chantel Martinez, with the aim of selecting a country representative to participate in its parent pageant, Miss Grand International. After Chantel Martinez ended the partnership with the Miss Grand International in 2019, the competition franchise was taken over by different local organizers, such as the Iconic Model Search Inc. of Joe Amhed (2022) and Misses of Dominican Republic-related personels.
Miss Grand Nepal 2016 was the first edition of the Miss Grand Nepal beauty pageant, held on August 23, 2016, at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Kathmandu, organized by Mero Looks and Revolution Pvt. Ltd. Ten national aspirants competed for the title, of whom a 24-year-old Mass communication student from Kathmandu, Zeenus Lama, was named the winner, and received रु50,000 Rupee cash as the prize while the first and second runners-up, Pooja Shrestha of Lalitpur and Jyotsana Maharjan of Bharatpur, obtained रु25,000 and रु10,000 Rupee, respectively. The event was attended by Claire Elizabeth Parker, Miss Grand International 2015, and the Ambassador of Thailand to Nepal, Vutti Vuttisant.
Miss Grand Namibia was a Namibian female beauty pageant founded in 2015 by Magnolia Kuhanga, the chairperson of the Windhoek-based organizer, Magnolia Events Management. The pageant was declared defunct in late 2018 after the incorporation between the aforementioned national organizer and Miss Grand International Limited was not extended and no other domestic organizer was interested in the license. Originally, the winners of the contest, which was held three times—in 2015, 2016, and 2018—were expected to represent Namibia on its international parent platform, Miss Grand International. However, all three winners withdrew from the international pageant for unspecified reasons; only one of them was replaced by an appointed representative.
Miss Grand United Kingdom is a female beauty pageant in the United Kingdom, founded in 2015 by a Lancashire-based pageant organizer, Pageant Girls UK, chaired by Holly Louise, who was also the UK license holder for various other international pageants such as Miss Earth, Miss International and Miss Intercontinental. The winners of the contest, which usually comprises three or four titles, including Miss Grand England, Miss Grand Wales, Miss Grand Scotland, and Miss Grand Northern Ireland, represent their countries in the international parent contest, Miss Grand International. However, as the former licensee was unable to send the elected delegates to compete in the 2019 international contest in Venezuela, the competition license was transferred to Megan Darlington in 2020, and subsequently to Kathryn Fanshawe in mid-2022.
Miss Grand Jamaica is a national title bestowed upon a woman chosen to represent Jamaica at Miss Grand International. The title was first mentioned in 2016, when the 4th runner-up of Miss Universe Jamaica 2014, Dianne Brown, dominated herself as the country representative at the Miss Grand International 2016 competition held in Las Vegas, United States.
Miss Grand Switzerland is a national beauty pageant title awarded to Swiss representatives chosen to compete at the Miss Grand International pageant. It was first awarded in 2013 to a 17-year-old service assistant from Bern, Cynthia Montchong, who was previously the vice-Miss World Switzerland 2013. From 2013 to 2014, the right to send Swiss candidates for Miss Grand International belonged to HBC Entertainment GmbH, the Miss World Switzerland organizer headquartered in Wettingen, and then was granted by a Fribourg-based national pageant, Miss & Mister Suisse Francophone, in 2016.
Miss Grand Uruguay is a national beauty pageant title awarded to Uruguay representatives competing at the Miss Grand International contest. The title was first awarded on the national stage of the Nuestra Belleza Uruguay 2016 pageant, in which Mellina Carballo was named the first Miss Grand Uruguay titleholder. The contest was organized by Nadia Cerri, who was also the director of the Miss Uruguay pageant. Another titleholder, Jimena Martino, was determined through an audition held by the Certamen Nacional de Belleza Uruguay pageant in 2020.
Miss Grand Taiwan is a national beauty pageant title awarded to Taiwan representatives competing at the Miss Grand International contest. The title was first awarded in 2014 to a Taipei-based model, Chen Szu Yu (陳思妤), who then competed internationally at the parent stage held in Thailand, and was unplaced. The following titleholders were all appointed; no national pageant was organized.
