Miss Grand Tahiti is a national beauty pageant title awarded to Tahiti representatives who competed at the national event, Miss Grand France, or an international stage of Miss Grand International. [1] [2] [3] The title was first awarded in 2014 when the 2nd runner-up Miss Tahiti 2014 was appointed to represent Tahiti at the Miss Grand International 2014 pageant in Thailand, [1] followed by 1st runner-up Miss Tahiti 2016, Vaiata Buisson, who competed internationally in Miss Grand International 2016 in Las Vegas. Tahiti joined the Miss Grand International pageant twice; in 2014 and 2016, [1] [2] [3] but obtained placement only once, in 2016, by Vaiata Buisson. [4] [5]

History

Tahiti made its debut in Miss Grand International in 2014, when Miss Tahiti acquired the license and appointed the 2014 2nd vice-miss, Kohotu Ariitai, to compete internationally in Thailand. [6] However, Kohotu was unplaced, then no Tahiti delegate in the 2015 international edition. [7]

Miss Tahiti competed in Miss Grand International again in 2016, represented by the 1st runner-up Miss Tahiti 2016, Vaiata Buisson, [8] [9] who qualified to the top 20 finalists in the international pageant held on October 25, in Las Vegas. Since then, no Tahiti candidates in Miss Grand International due to a lack of national licensees. [4] [5]

In 2019, a model Alicia Hoatua-Chave dominated herself as Tahiti representative for the Miss Grand France 2019 pageant, but was unplaced.

National and international competition

In 2014 and 2016, the runners-up of Miss Tahiti were sent to compete internationally in Miss Grand International. Later in 2019, Tahiti sent its representative to participate in Miss Grand France, as detailed below.

Miss Tahiti is a French Polynesian beauty pageant which selects a representative for the Miss France national competition from the overseas country of French Polynesia. Despite its name, women from all of French Polynesia are eligible to compete, not solely those from Tahiti. Miss Tahiti has been held annually since 1960.

Hinarani de Longeaux is a French model and beauty pageant titleholder who was crowned Miss Tahiti 2012. As Miss Tahiti, de Longeaux competed at Miss France 2013, placing as the first runner-up. Afterwards, she was appointed Miss Universe France 2013, and represented France at Miss Universe 2013.

Miss Algeria is a national beauty pageant in Algeria.

Miss Tunisie is a national Beauty pageant in Tunisia. The pageant produced titleholders of Tunisia at Miss Universe, Miss World, Miss International and Miss Earth pageants.

Miss Guadeloupe International is a national beauty pageant responsible for selecting Guadeloupe's representatives to the International pageants. This pageant is not related to Miss Guadeloupe where the winner traditionally competes at Miss France contest.

The franchise has been owned and run by a Thai stock exchange-listed company with the same name, also known as MGI PCL, since its inception in 2013, with Nawat Itsaragrisil as the president.

Miss Grand International 2016 was the fourth Miss Grand International pageant, held at the Westgate International Theater in Las Vegas, Nevada, United States, on October 25, 2016 the first time the contest was held outside Thailand. Candidates from seventy-four countries and territories competed for the title. At the end of the event Claire Elizabeth Parker, Miss Grand International 2015 of Australia crowned Ariska Putri Pertiwi of Indonesia as her successor, making her the first Asian candidate to win the title. Miss Grand United Kingdom is a female beauty pageant in the United Kingdom, founded in 2015 by a Lancashire-based pageant organizer, Pageant Girls UK, chaired by Holly Louise, who was also the UK license holder for various other international pageants such as Miss Earth, Miss International and Miss Intercontinental. The winners of the contest, which usually comprises three or four titles, including Miss Grand England, Miss Grand Wales, Miss Grand Scotland, and Miss Grand Northern Ireland, represent their countries in the international parent contest, Miss Grand International. However, as the former licensee was unable to send the elected delegates to compete in the 2019 international contest in Venezuela, the competition license was transferred to Megan Darlington in 2020, and subsequently to Kathryn Fanshawe in mid-2022.

Miss Grand Haiti is a national title given to a woman chosen to represent Haiti at Miss Grand International. The title was first mentioned in 2013, when Miss Teen Haiti, Cassandre Paul, was appointed to compete at the inaugural edition of the Miss Grand International in Thailand; however, Paul withdrew for undisclosed reasons. Later in 2014, a New York-resident Haitian American, Lisa Drouillard, dominated herself as the Haitian contestant at the Miss Grand International 2014, and she was placed among the top 10 finalists, which is considered the only placement, to date, for Haiti at such a contest.

Miss France 2024 was the 94th edition of the Miss France pageant. The competition was held on 16 December 2023 at the Zénith de Dijon in Dijon. Indira Ampiot of Guadeloupe crowned Eve Gilles of Nord Pas-de-Calais as her successor at the end of the event.

Miss Grand US Virgin Islands is a national beauty pageant title awarded to women chosen to represent the US Virgin Islands at the Miss Grand International contest. The title was first awarded in 2014 when a 24-year-old Stateside Puerto Rican, Wilma Echandy, was appointed to represent the US Virgin Islands in Miss Grand International 2014 in Thailand. Under the directorship of Brian Javier, the first contest of Miss Grand US Virgin Islands was expected to be held in March 2024.

Miss Grand Cameroon is a beauty pageant title given to Cameroonian representatives competing at the Miss Grand International pageant. The first titleholder was Marie Cecile Olga, who was appointed to the position in 2013 by the director of Megane Fashion International and Olga's agent, Armstrong Loga. The license was then transferred to a newly established national contest headed by Marina Tchassem Fankam named Miss Prestige Cameroun and to Angèle Kossinda in 2014 and 2022, respectively.

Miss Grand Ivory Coast is a national female beauty pageant based in Abidjan, Ivory Coast. It was founded in 2022 by the Comite Miss Grande Côte d'Ivoire (COMIGCI) with Tatiana Kacou and Kelly serge as the directors. However, due to the lack of the Miss Grand International license for Ivory Coast, the winner of the contest has been sent to compete at other international pageants instead, such as Miss Planet International and Miss Premium African International.

Miss Grand Guadeloupe is a national beauty pageant title awarded to Guadeloupe representatives who competed at the national event, Miss Grand France, or an international stage of Miss Grand International. The title was first awarded in 2013 to a 22-year-old from Le Moule, Orphelie Morti, who then competed in the international event in Thailand. In 2013 and from 2017 to 2019, the right to send Guadeloupe representatives to Miss Grand International belonged to the national pageant of Miss International Guadeloupe, headed by Georges Nandan.
