Miss Grand Indonesia 2018 was the first edition of the Miss Grand Indonesia pageant, [1] [2] [3] held on July 21, 2018, at the Jakarta Convention Center, Senayan City, Central Jakarta. [4] [5] Thirty contestants, who qualified for the national stage via regional auditions, competed for the title. [4] [5] Of whom, a 26-year-old University of Indonesia-graduated model representing Bengkulu, Nadia Purwoko  [ id ], was announced the winner, [5] [6] while Vivi Wijaya Huang of North Sumatra and Stephanie Cecillia  [ id ] of Jakarta were named the first and second runners-up, respectively. Nadia later represented Indonesia at the international parent stage, Miss Grand International 2018, held on October 25 that year in Yangon, Myanmar, where she was named the second runner-up as well as obtained the special title of Best in Social Media Award. [8]

The event was supported by the Ministry of Tourism of Indonesia, Junior Chamber International (JCI), and MarkPlus, Inc., [2] and was broadcast nationwide through a free-to-air television network, SCTV. [9]

Background

History

After 5 consecutive years of appointing representatives to compete at the Miss Grand International pageant, the first stand-alone Miss Grand Indonesia was scheduled to happen in 2018 following the franchise transfer to a new organizer, Dharma Gantari Foundation. [3] [9] The memorandum of understanding singing ceremony between the international organ and the local franchise holder was held at Indonesia's Ministry of Tourism Office in Jakarta on January 29, 2018. [1] [2] [10]

Selection of contestants

The finalists for Miss Grand Indonesia 2018 were determined through the audition held in 18 cities countrywide from February to April 2018. [1] [3] [10] The qualified contestants were later assigned to represent one of Indonesia's provinces that they were affiliated with. [1]

Miss Indonesia 2012 is the eighth edition of Miss Indonesia. The pageant was held at Hall D2 JIExpo, Kemayoran on April 28, 2012, and was hosted by Ferdi Hassan and Amanda Zevannya. The current titleholder of Miss World, Ivian Sarcos attended the awarding night, when Astrid Ellena of East Java crowned her successor, Ines Putri Chandra from Bali.

She was crowned Puteri Indonesia 2013 and represented her country at the Miss Universe 2013 pageant, where she reached the top 16, ranked on eleventh spot. She is the second Indonesian and Sumatran Miss Universe finalist after Artika Sari Devi at Miss Universe 2005.

Miss Indonesia 2013 was the ninth edition of the Miss Indonesia beauty pageant, held on February 20, 2013 at Jakarta International Expo, Jakarta. The winner of Miss Indonesia 2013 will represent Indonesia in Miss World 2013 in Jakarta, Indonesia. The current titleholder of Miss World, Wenxia Yu attended the awarding night, when Ines Putri of Bali crowned her successor.

Anindya Kusuma Putri, Puteri Indonesia 2015 of Central Java, crowned her successor Kezia Warouw of North Sulawesi at the end of the event. All 39 contestants from 34 provinces competed for the crown. The winner represented Indonesia at the Miss Universe 2016, while the runners-up competed at Miss International 2016, Miss Supranational 2016, and Miss Grand International 2016. Also Miss International 2015 Edymar Martínez of Venezuela attend at the Grand Final Show. It is traditional for Miss Universe to attend on the Final Show of Puteri Indonesia, but Miss Universe 2015 of the Philippines had fashion show scheduled in New York City at the same time, and could not attend. Miss International 2015 replaced her as special guest.

Puteri Indonesia 2017, the 21st Puteri Indonesia pageant was held on March 31, 2017, at Jakarta Convention Center, Jakarta. Kezia Warouw, Puteri Indonesia 2016 of North Sulawesi crowned her successor Bunga Jelitha of Jakarta Special Capital Region 5 at the end of the event. All 38 contestants from 33 provinces competed for the crown. The winner will represent Indonesia at the Miss Universe 2017, while the runners-up will compete at the Miss International 2017, Miss Supranational 2017, and Miss Grand International 2017. Miss Universe 2016 Iris Mittenaere of France and Miss Grand International 2016 Ariska Putri Pertiwi of Indonesia attend at the Grand Final Show. Miss Universe 2005 Natalie Glebova of Canada also attended the show as a judge.

Frederika became the seventh Indonesian, and the first representative of Jakarta SCR to be placed as a finalist in Miss Universe history.
