Miss Grand Namibia was a Namibian female beauty pageant founded in 2015 by Magnolia Kuhanga, [1] [2] [3] the chairperson of the Windhoek-based organizer, Magnolia Events Management (ML Events Artistry). [3] The pageant was declared defunct in late 2018 after the incorporation between the aforementioned national organizer and Miss Grand International Limited was not extended and no other domestic organizer was interested in the license. [3] Originally, the winners of the contest, which was held three times—in 2015, 2016, and 2018—were expected to represent Namibia on its international parent platform, Miss Grand International. [1] [2] However, all three winners withdrew from the international pageant for unspecified reasons; only one of them was replaced by an appointed representative. [4]

Since the first debutant in 2013, Namibian representatives have not obtained any placements at the Miss Grand International pageant.

History

Namibia participated in Miss Grand International twice, in 2013 and 2015, represented by Grace Khakhane and Unongo Kutako, respectively. [4] [5] After Magnolia Events Management, headed by Magnolia Kuhanga, acquired the license in 2015, the national contest, Miss Grand Namibia, was held three times between 2015 and 2018. [1] [2] [6] [3] Unfortunately, all winners of such a national pageant did not take part on the international stage for unclear reasons; however, Unongo Kutako, one of the Miss Grand Namibia 2015 finalists, was appointed to participate at the Miss Grand International 2015 in Thailand instead of the original winner, Linda Amadhila. [4] Since then, there have been no Namibian representatives at Miss Grand International, although the national pageants were additionally held to determine the titleholders in 2016 and 2018. [7] [8]

In 2016, the first preliminary pageant for Miss Grand Namibia, Miss Swakopmund, was held in the city of Swakopmund, Erongo Region. The winner of the said regional pageant was automatically qualified for the national contest, Miss Grand Namibia 2016, held in Windhoek, [7] where Esperance Luvindao, a medical student at the University of Namibia, was elected as the national winner, [9] outclassing the other sixteen finalists. [10] For the most recent edition, Miss Grand Namibia 2018, several regional casting events were conducted nationwide by the national licensee to determine the regional representatives for the national contest, such as Erongo, Khomas, Ohangwena, etc. [11] The national final round was held in Windhoek on May 4, 2018, in which Rail Lucas of Ohangwena Region was announced as the national winner. The A1 is a national highway in Namibia. The 76 kilometres (47 mi) stretch of road between Windhoek and Okahandja is the only A-rated road in Namibia. Consisting of freeway for its entire length, it came into existence in 2017 when freeway sections of the B1 were redesignated A1 in accordance with new standards of the Roads Authority Namibia. The entirety of the A1 forms part of the Trans-Kalahari Corridor and, together with the B1, also forms part of the Tripoli-Cape Town Highway.

Miss Grand International 2016 was the fourth Miss Grand International pageant, held at the Westgate International Theater in Las Vegas, Nevada, United States, on October 25, 2016 the first time the contest was held outside Thailand. Candidates from seventy-four countries and territories competed for the title. At the end of the event Claire Elizabeth Parker, Miss Grand International 2015 of Australia crowned Ariska Putri Pertiwi of Indonesia as her successor, making her the first Asian candidate to win the title. Meanwhile, the first to fourth vice-miss titles was awarded to the representatives of the Philippines, Thailand, Puerto Rico, and the United States, respectively.

Miss Grand United Kingdom is a female beauty pageant in the United Kingdom, founded in 2015 by a Lancashire-based pageant organizer, Pageant Girls UK, chaired by Holly Louise, who was also the UK license holder for various other international pageants such as Miss Earth, Miss International and Miss Intercontinental. The winners of the contest, which usually comprises three or four titles, including Miss Grand England, Miss Grand Wales, Miss Grand Scotland, and Miss Grand Northern Ireland, represent their countries in the international parent contest, Miss Grand International. However, as the former licensee was unable to send the elected delegates to compete in the 2019 international contest in Venezuela, the competition license was transferred to Megan Darlington in 2020, and subsequently to Kathryn Fanshawe in mid-2022.

Miss Grand Namibia 2015 was the inaugural edition of the Miss Grand Namibia beauty pageant, held on July 4, 2015, at the National Theatre of Namibia in the country's capital, Windhoek, where a second-year library and information sciences student from the University of Namibia, Linda Amadhila of Oshana, was announced the winner, outclassing national finalists from other eleven country's regions. Meanwhile, Fransiska Mbambo of Hardap and Jessica Ramires da Cunha of Otjozondjupa were named the first and second runners-up, respectively.

Miss Grand Namibia 2016 was the second edition of the Miss Grand Namibia beauty pageant, held on July 9, 2016, at the National Theatre of Namibia in the country's capital, Windhoek, where a fourth-year medical student from the School of Medicine of the University of Namibia, Esperance Luvindao, was announced the winner, outclassing other sixteen regional representatives. Luvindao was expected to represent Namibia at the Miss Grand International 2016 pageant in Las Vegas, Nevada, but withdrew for unknown reasons. Meanwhile, one of the contest's runners-up was also sent to compete at the Miss International 2017 pageant in Japan.
