Miss Grand Netherlands 2023 was the fourth edition of the Miss Grand Netherlands beauty pageant, held on June 4, 2023, [1] [2] [3] [4] at the Claus Event Center in the city of Hoofddorp. [4] [5] [6] [7] Eleven candidates, who qualified for the national stage through an audion held in February and then were assigned to represents one of the country's provinces, competed for the title. At the end of the event, the representative of Groningen, Melissa Bottema, was announced the winner, outclassing the other ten finalists. [3] [4] [8] [9] Meanwhile, Amber Tamara of Flevoland and Merel Bakker of Gelderland were named the first and second runners-up, respectively. [3] Bottema was crowned by Miss Grand Netherlands 2022, Marit Beets, and obtained the right to represent the country at the Miss Grand International 2023 pageant, [2] to be held in Vietnam on October 25. Originally, 12 candidates were confirmed to participate, [1] of whom, the representative of Zeeland, Rebecca Zuidweg, withdrew for personal reasons, making the finalized total of 11 contestants. [3]

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Flevoland</span> Province of the Netherlands

Flevoland is the twelfth and newest province of the Netherlands, established in 1986, when the southern and eastern Flevopolders, together with the Noordoostpolder, were merged into one provincial entity. It is in the centre of the country in the former Zuiderzee, which was turned into the freshwater IJsselmeer by the closure of the Afsluitdijk in 1932. The Kingdom of Holland was the successor state of the Batavian Republic. It was created by Napoleon Bonaparte in March 1806 in order to strengthen control over the Netherlands by replacing the republican government with a monarchy. Since becoming emperor in 1804, Napoleon sought to extirpate republican tendencies in territories France controlled, and placed his third brother, Louis Bonaparte, on the throne of the puppet kingdom. The name of the leading province, Holland, now designated the whole country. In 1807, East Frisia and Jever were added to the kingdom.

Drenthe is a province of the Netherlands located in the northeastern part of the country. It is bordered by Overijssel to the south, Friesland to the west, Groningen to the north, and the German state of Lower Saxony to the east. As of January 2023, Drenthe had a population of about 502,000, and a total area of 2,680 km2 (1,030 sq mi).

Overijssel is a province of the Netherlands located in the eastern part of the country. The province's name translates to "across the IJssel", from the perspective of the Episcopal principality of Utrecht by which it was held until 1528. This list contains all twelve official flags of the provinces of the Netherlands, including the pennons. The Dutch provinces have their own flag and also their own pennons. Provincial flags tend to have a long historical history. Flags have made an important contribution to forming a national or regional identity since time immemorial. This also applies to Dutch provincial flags, which often have a long tradition. Yet, research shows that quite a few Dutch people do not or hardly recognize the flag of their province. The 12 provincial flags are placed below in order of seniority. During official occasions, they are also placed from left to right in this manner, starting with the flag of North Brabant. Dutch provinces have their own pennons in addition to their own flags. However, these are unofficial, so no flag protocol applies to them. They can therefore be hoisted at any time.

The Dutch Amateur Radio Emergency Service (DARES), which was founded on 12 May 2004, is a non-profit organization made out of licensed radio amateurs in the Netherlands. DARES participants are able to set up a national, continental or international radio network in case of an emergency situation, like a power outage on a large scale, a flooding, a cyber attack causing severe damage to communication networks, or other emergency situations, where the safety of a large group of people are in danger.

Miss Grand Netherlands 2017 was the second edition of the Miss Grand Netherlands beauty pageant, held at the Crown Theatre in Aalsmeer, Netherlands, on March 25, 2017. Seven candidates who qualified through the casting process held earlier in January competed for the title, and a twenty-three-year-old communication and multimedia designer from North Brabant, Kelly van den Dungen, was named the winner. Kelly then represented the country at the Miss Grand International 2017 pageant in Phú Quốc, Vietnam, where she was placed among the top 20 finalists.

Miss Grand Netherlands 2018 was the third edition of the Miss Grand Netherlands beauty pageant, held at the Apollo Hotel, Vinkeveen, Netherlands, on June 17, 2018. Ten candidates who qualified through the casting process held earlier in March competed for the title, and a businessperson from North Brabant, Kimberley Xhofleer, was named the winner. Kimberley then represented the country at the Miss Grand International 2018 pageant in Yangon, Myanmar, but was unplaced.
