Miss Grand Liberia was a Liberian national female beauty pageant based in Monrovia. [1] [2] [3] Founded in 2021 [4] by a Charlotte-based Liberian American, Velegar Curry. [5] The winner of the contest represents Liberia at the parent stage, Miss Grand International. [4] [6] [7]
Since the establishment of Miss Grand International, Liberia participated only in 2021 by the representation of Hajamaya Mulbah, [8] [9] but was unplaced. [10]
After acquiring the license of Miss Grand International for Liberia in 2021, Velegar Curry subsequently opened the application for the national contest in June 2021 and planned to organize the contest in August 2021. [1] Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, the pageant, which featured 9 national finalists, was instead held virtually via Zoom application, and a social media marketing strategist and the former Miss Mano River Union, Goretti Itoka, was announced winner. [4] [8] Goretti was, however, dethroned and replaced by another finalist, Hajamaya Mulbah, one month later. [6] [7] [8] [9]
Miss Grand Liberia was organized as a stand-alone contest only once in 2021.

In 2021, one month after the coronation, Hajamaya Mulbah, one of the pageant's finalists, was promoted to replace the original winner, Goretti Itoka. [8] [9] [11] The organizer cited Itoka wished to relinquish the title willingly due to health issues, howbeit, Itoka later contended that she was removed without any direct clarification from the organizers. [8] [9] [6] The Ministry of Information, Culture affairs, and Tourism of Liberia (MICAT) was also involved to manipulate the situation and has sent a communication document to the organizer, however, no organizer's official response. [6]
Goretti was instead offered to compete at the Miss Grand International 2022, but she rejected. [12]
