Miss Grand Sarawak is a Malaysian state-level beauty pageant which selects representatives from Sarawak for the Miss Grand Malaysia national competition, [1] [2] [3] [4] founded in 2017 by a group of event organizer based in Kuching called Borneo Pageantry. [1]
Since the first competition in the Miss Grand Malaysia pageant, Sarawak's representatives have never won the competition three times but were named the second and fourth runners-up in 2017 and 2018, respectively. [5] [6]
After acquiring the license of Miss Grand Malaysia in 2017, Jude Benjamin Lisa began franchising the state competitions to individual organizers, who would name the state representatives to compete in the national pageant, the license for Sarawak was granted to an event organizer, Borneo Pageantry, [1] who then organized the first contest of Miss Grand Sarawak in Kuching, in which a 24-year-old Bidayuh from Kuching, Fiollaa Redup, was named the first Miss Grand Sarawak. [1] Fiollaa later competed nationally in the Miss Grand Malaysia 2017 pageant in Selangor, [7] where she was named the second runner-up. [5] [8]
In 2018, the competition license was transferred to Bachelor of Malaysia/Sarawak Paperbeads, who distributed the right to send candidates to compete at the Miss Grand Sarawak pageant to division-level organizers; twelve division pageants was held. [3] [4] [9]
The pageant was halted in 2022 after the national license of Miss Grand Malaysia was transferred to Sean Wong of HyperLive Entertainment Pte. Ltd., and the state franchise has not been distributed since then. [10]
