This national electoral calendar for 2024 lists the national/federal elections held in 2024 in all sovereign states and their dependent territories. By-elections are excluded, though national referendums are included.

The following indirect elections of heads of state and the upper houses of bicameral legislatures will take place through votes in elected lower houses, unicameral legislatures, or electoral colleges:

Analysis

2024 was dubbed the biggest election year in history. [142] [143] [144] [145] [146] [147] The vast majority of incumbent parties worldwide facing election in 2024 lost vote share, including in South Africa, India, France, the United Kingdom, the United States, and Japan, though, of those, only the incumbents in the United Kingdom and the United States lost power. [148] Mexico was one of the few countries where the incumbent party improved its vote share. [149] [150]
