Ooink is a ramen shop with two locations in Seattle, in the U.S. state of Washington. The business is owned by chef Chong Boon Ooi and his wife Jiaxin Wang. [1] The restaurant's logo depicts a pig. [2]
The original restaurant operates above a QFC store at the intersection of Broadway and East Pike Street, where Capitol Hill meets First Hill. A second location opened in the Fremont neighborhood in 2022. [3]
In 2018, Aimee Rizzo of The Infatuation wrote, "Ooink is a small ramen spot in a neighborhood packed with lots of other places to eat noodle soup. But this one stands out because the sliced pork on top is the most tender in town, and the gyoza dumplings are pretty massive. Both of those things make up for the fact that a) this place replaced Vostok (a dumpling place we loved), and b) you could probably never eat with a group in here. So, pop in alone or with one other person when a hot bowl of broth feels right – like when you have a cold, or need to steam your face." [4] She also included Ooink in a 2022 list of the city's best dumplings. [5]
Chelsea Lin included Ooink in Seattle Magazine's 2018 list of the city's five best new ramen restaurants. Ramen is a Japanese noodle dish. It consists of Chinese-style wheat noodles served in a broth; common flavors are soy sauce and miso, with typical toppings including sliced pork, nori, menma, and scallions. Ramen has its roots in Chinese noodle dishes. Nearly every region in Japan has its own variation of ramen, such as the tonkotsu ramen of Kyushu and the miso ramen of Hokkaido.
Wonton noodles is a noodle dish of Cantonese origin. Wonton noodles were given their name, húntún, in the Tang Dynasty. The dish is popular in Southern China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand. The dish usually consists of egg noodles served in a hot broth, garnished with leafy vegetables and wonton dumplings. The types of leafy vegetables used are usually gai-lan, also known as Chinese broccoli or Chinese kale. Another type of dumpling known as shui jiao (水餃) is sometimes served in place of wonton. Shrimp wonton are mostly known as Hong Kong dumplings. The wontons contain prawns, chicken or pork, and spring onions, with some chefs adding mushroom and black fungus. In Indonesia especially in North Sumatra, West Kalimantan and South Sulawesi, wonton noodles are called mie pangsit.
Ramen Jiro is a Japanese chain of ramen shops founded by Takumi Yamada. Yamada opened the first Ramen Jiro in Meguro, Tokyo in 1968. As of 2018, there are approximately 40 locations across Japan, over 30 of which are in the greater Tokyo area. Ramen Jiro is known for its large portions and its distinctly flavored broth, which enthusiasts call "Jirolian style." In 2009, The Guardian included Ramen Jiro on its list of "The 50 best things to eat in the world".
