The 2007 Solomon Islands earthquake took place on 2 April 2007, near the provincial capital of Gizo on Ghizo Island, in the Solomon Islands. Its magnitude was estimated at 8.1 on the Mw scale, and 7.8 on the Ms scale. The tsunami that followed the earthquake killed 52 people. According to the USGS, the earthquake was recorded around 7:39:56 a.m. local time (UTC+11). The focus was 10 km (6 mi) deep and 40 km (25 mi) south southeast of Gizo township on New Georgia Islands in Western Province. There were numerous aftershocks, the largest of which had a magnitude of 6.2.

Uvinza is one of the eight administrative districts of Kigoma Region in Tanzania. Uvinza is bordered to the northwest by Kigoma District and Kigoma-Ujiji District. North of the district is bordered by Kasulu District. Lake Tanganyika borders the district on the west. Mpanda District in Katavi Region borders the district to the south and Kaliua District in Tabora Region borders the district to the east. The district is named in honor of the Vinza people whom the western part of district was their historic kingdom. Southern Uvinza District is home to the Mahale Mountains National Park. A unique park that is home to both Chimpanzees and lions in the same habitat.
Sona Tata Condé is an internationally recognised Guinean musician. Sona Tata is a member of the Mandinka ethnic group. Sona Tata is widely popular in Guinea, especially in the capital Conakry. Sona Tata Condé recorded her afro-pop album Simbo which is named after her husband, in 2007. The title track, Simbo, is a love song to her husband and like many of her other songs, is not only sung in her native Malinke, but in other languages used in Guinea's capital, Conakry, including the Fula, Susu, French and English languages..

Gizo/Kolombangara is a single-member constituency of the National Parliament of Solomon Islands. Located in Western Province and covering Gizo and Kolombangara, it was established in 1976 when the Legislative Assembly was expanded from 24 to 38 seats, with the Gizo/Ranongga/Simbo/Kolombangara constituency split into Gizo/Kolombangara and Ranongga/Simbo. Former Gizo/Ranongga/Simbo/Kolombangara MP George Ngumi contested the seat in the 1976 elections, but was defeated by Lawry Eddie Wickham.
Gizo/Ranongga/Simbo/Kolombangara was a single-member constituency of the Governing Council and Legislative Assembly. Located in Western Province, it covered the islands of Gizo, Kolombangara, Ranongga and Simbo. It was established in 1973 when the Governing Council was expanded from 17 to 24 seats, and was abolished in 1976 when the Legislative Assembly was enlarged to 38 seats, at which point it was split into Gizo/Kolombangara and Ranongga/Simbo. The constituency's sole MP, George Ngumi, contested the Gizo/Kolombangara seat in the 1976 elections, but was defeated by Lawry Eddie Wickham.

Simbo is an administrative ward in Kigoma Rural District of Kigoma Region in Tanzania. Prior to 2014 the ward was in the Uvinza District before moving to the Kigoma District.
