Ormu is an Austronesian language spoken in Jayapura Bay in Papua province, Indonesia.

Ormus Kingdom in the Persian Gulf (11th c. – 1622); Portuguese vassal (1515-1622)

The Kingdom of Ormus was located in the eastern side of the Persian Gulf and extending as far as Bahrain in the west at its zenith. The Kingdom was established in 11th century initially as a dependency of the Kerman Seljuk Sultanate, and later as an autonomous tributary of the Salghurids and the Ilkhanate of Iran. Ormus later became a client state of the Portuguese Empire, most of its territory was eventually annexed by the Safavid Empire in the 17th century.

Hong Bao was a Chinese eunuch sent on overseas diplomatic missions during the reigns of the Yongle Emperor and Xuande Emperor in the Ming dynasty. He is best known as the commander of one of the detached squadrons of Zheng He's fleet during the Seventh Voyage of this fleet to the Indian Ocean (1431–1433).

The ancient city of Qalhat, or Galhat, is located just over 20 km north of Sur, in the Ash Sharqiyah Region of northeastern Oman.

Persian–Portuguese War Wars between the Portuguese Empire and the Safavid Empire (1507-1622)

The Persian–Portuguese war took place from 1507 to 1622 and involved the Portuguese Empire and the Kingdom of Ormus, its vassal, on one side, and the Safavid Persia (Iran) with the help of the Kingdom of England on the other side. During this era, Portugal established its rule for about more than a century in Ormuz and more than 80 years in Bahrain, capturing some other islands and ports such as Qeshm and Bandar Abbas. The conflict came to an end when the Persian Shah, Abbas the Great, conquered the Portuguese Bahrain forcing them to war in the Persian Gulf.

Marta Tagliaferro Italian racing cyclist

Marta Tagliaferro is an Italian former track and road racing cyclist, who rode professionally between 2009 and 2020 for the Gauss RDZ Ormu–Colnago, Top Girls Fassa Bortolo–Ghezzi, Alé–Cipollini, Cylance Pro Cycling and Hitec Products–Birk Sport teams. As a junior rider Tagliaferro won three Italian national titles in 2007: two on the track and one on the road. She became under-23 European champion in the points race at the 2009 European Track Championships.

Semirâma is an opera in three acts by Ottorino Respighi to a libretto by Alessandro Cerè based on Voltaire's 1748 play Sémiramis, the same subject used for Rossini's Semiramide. Semirâma premiered on 20 November 1910 at the Teatro Comunale di Bologna. The première obtained a great success, with several calls for the composer and the singers.

Luisa Laschi Italian operatic soprano

Luisa Laschi, also known as Luisa Laschi-Mombelli, was an Italian operatic soprano prominent in the opera houses of Austria and Italy. Amongst the numerous roles she created in her brief but intense career were Countess Almaviva in Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro, Aspasia in Salieri's Axur, re d'Ormus, and Isabella in Martín y Soler's Una cosa rara. Laschi was the first wife of the tenor Domenico Mombelli by whom she had two children, both of whom died in infancy.
