Šabac is a city and the administrative centre of the Mačva District in western Serbia. The traditional centre of the fertile Mačva region, Šabac is located on the right banks of the river Sava. According to the 2011 census, the city proper has population of 51,163, while its administrative area comprises 105,432 inhabitants.

The Sava is a river in Central and Southeast Europe, a right-bank and the longest tributary of the Danube. It flows through Slovenia, Croatia and along its border with Bosnia and Herzegovina, and finally through Serbia, feeding into the Danube in its capital, Belgrade. The Sava forms the main northern limit of the Balkan Peninsula, and the southern edge of the Pannonian Plain.

The 1st Army was a Royal Yugoslav Army formation commanded by Armijski đeneral Milan Rađenković during the German-led Axis invasion of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia in April 1941 during World War II. It consisted of one infantry division, one horsed cavalry division, and two brigade-strength infantry detachments. It formed part of the 2nd Army Group, and was responsible for the defence of the section of the Yugoslav-Hungarian border between the Danube and the Tisza rivers.

Jovan Soldatović was a Serbian and Yugoslav sculptor, internationally recognized for hundreds of sculptures and memorials. He was one of the most prominent modern Serbian sculptors, a leading artistic personality in contemporary Novi Sad and a member of the Prostor 8 art group from Belgrade.

Beška Bridge crosses the Danube river near Beška, Serbia on the A1 motorway, part of the European route E75. It consists of two identical prestressed concrete constructions, the first being completed in 1975 and the second in 2011. With 2,205 m total length, it is the longest bridge over the Danube.

The total length of roads in the country is 45,419 km, and they are categorized as "state roads" or "municipal roads". All state roads in Serbia are maintained by the public, nation-wide, road construction company JP Putevi Srbije.

Motorways in Serbia are called auto-put, a name which simply means car-road. Roads that are motorways are categorized as state roads of IA category and are marked with one-digit numbers. Motorways in Serbia have three lanes in each direction, signs are white-on-green, and the normal speed limit is 130 km/h (81 mph). They are maintained and operated by the national road operator company JP "Putevi Srbije".
