The district encompasses a section of southwestern Los Angeles County. The district is primarily urban.
The 61st Assembly district is completely contained within the 35th senatorial district , represented by Democrat Laura Richardson. [2]
In the United States House of Representatives, the 61st Assembly district is part of the California's 43rd congressional district , represented by Democrat Maxine Waters. [3]
