Johor Bahru, colloquially referred to as JB, is the capital city of the Malaysian state of Johor. It is the core city of Johor Bahru District, Malaysia's second-largest district by population and the second-largest GDP district contributor. The city proper covers an area of 391.25 km2 and had a population of 858,118 people as of 2020. It is located at the southern end of the Peninsular Malaysia, along the north bank of the Straits of Johor, facing the city-state of Singapore.
Sultan Sir Ibrahim Al-Masyhur ibni Almarhum Sultan Abu Bakar Al-Khalil Ibrahim Shah was a Malaysian sultan and the 2nd modern Sultan of Johor and 22nd Sultan of Johor overall. He was considered "fabulously wealthy."
Dato' Sir Onn bin Dato' Jaafar was a Malayan politician who served as the 7th Menteri Besar of Johor from 1947 to 1950. His organised opposition towards the creation of the Malayan Union led him to form the United Malays National Organisation (UMNO) in 1946; he was UMNO's founder and its first president until his resignation in 1951. He was famously known as the pioneer of organised anti-imperialism and early Malay nationalism within Malaya, which eventually culminated with the Malayan independence from Britain. He was also responsible for the social and economic welfare of the Malays by setting up the Rural Industrial Development Authority (RIDA).
Duli Yang Maha Mulia is the title of the state anthem of Selangor, Malaysia. It was adopted in 1967. The writer of the lyrics is unknown The music was written by Saiful Bahri, who also wrote and composed the Malaccan state anthem, Melaka Maju Jaya.
"Berkatlah Yang DiPertuan Besar Negeri Sembilan" is the state anthem of Negeri Sembilan. It was composed by Andrew Caldecott (1884–1951) with lyrics by Tunku Zakaria Mambang. It was adopted as an official state anthem in 1911 at the behest of Tuanku Muhammad Shah (1865–1933), the seventh Yang di-Pertuan Besar, who ruled Negeri Sembilan from 1888 to 1933.
The Sultan of Johor is a hereditary seat and the sovereign ruler of the Malaysian state of Johor. In the past, the sultan held absolute power over the state and was advised by a bendahara. Currently, the role of bendahara has been taken over by first minister with the constitutional monarchy system via Johor State Constitution. The sultan is the constitutional head of state of Johor. The sultan has his own independent military force, the Royal Johor Military Force. The sultan is also the Head of Islam in Johor state.
Sultan Abu Bakar State Mosque is the state mosque of Johor, Malaysia. Located along Jalan Skudai, Johor Bahru, the mosque was constructed between 1892 and 1900, under the direction of Sultan Abu Bakar.
Sultan of Selangor is the title of the constitutional ruler of Selangor, Malaysia who is the head of state and head of the Islamic religion in Selangor. The current monarch, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah ascended the throne on the death of his father, on 22 November 2001.
Greater Indonesia was an irredentist political concept that sought to bring the so-called Malay race together, by uniting the territories of the Dutch East Indies with British Malaya and British Borneo. It was espoused by students and graduates of Sultan Idris Training College for Malay Teachers in the late 1920s, and individuals from Sumatra and Java, including Mohammad Natsir and Sukarno, on 28 September 1950. Indonesia Raya was adopted as the name of what later became the Indonesian national anthem in 1924.
Sultan Ibrahim ibni Sultan Iskandar is the King of Malaysia and the fifth Sultan of modern Johor. Ibrahim was born during the reign of his great-grandfather, Sultan Sir Ibrahim, and became heir apparent when his father, Sultan Iskandar, acceded to the throne of Johor in 1981. He was created Crown Prince of Johor on 3 July 1981. He was educated at Trinity Grammar School in Australia. In 1982, he married Raja Zarith Sofiah. They had six children, notably Ismail Idris and Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah. Ibrahim became Sultan of Johor upon his father's death in 2010. On 31 January 2024, Ibrahim was sworn in as the 17th King of Malaysia, having been elected to a five-year term on 27 October 2023. Significant events in his reign have included his installation in July 2024.
Allah Selamatkan Sultan Kami is the state anthem of Pahang officially adopted in 1925. The anthem was based on the song Perang Pahang, re-arranged by Miss Dorothy Lilian Sworder in December 1924.
Abdul Ghani bin Othman served as the 14th Menteri Besar of Johor in Malaysia from 1995 to 2013. He is a member of the United Malays National Organisation (UMNO), a component party of Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition. He had held the political party position of Ledang Division Chairman, Johor State Liaison Chairman and National Supreme Council member of UMNO before. Currently, he serves as the Chairman of Sime Darby Berhad, starting from 1 July 2013.
Majlis Perbandaran Muar Football Club or commonly known MP Muar FC was a Malaysian football club based in Muar, Johor. The club home ground was the Sultan Ibrahim Mini Stadium in Muar. The club had formerly played in the Malaysian League's second division as well as second-tier professional Malaysia Premier League for three consecutive 2010, 2011 and 2012 seasons; before the new direction of Johor Football Association (JFA) for all clubs from Johor including MP Muar FC to pull out from the Malaysia Premier League at the end of 2012 season to join State League, the PBNJ State League only.
The Royal Johor Military Force is an independent military force of the state of Johor and the private royal guard of Sultan of Johor in Malaysia. The JMF is Malaysia's oldest active military unit still in operation and the only military in the Federation that is maintained by a state. The force comes under the control of the Sultan. Its headquarters are located at Sultan Ibrahim Camp, Johor Bahru.
Raja Zarith Sofiah binti Almarhum Sultan Idris Shah is the Queen of Malaysia and the Permaisuri of Johor as a wife of Sultan Ibrahim ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar. She was born as a member of the Perak royal family. While still attending Somerville College, Oxford, she married the heir to the throne of Johor. Now a mother of six, she participates in the work of non-governmental organisations and universities, and writes a periodical column for a newspaper.
