Gook is a derogatory term for people of Asian descent. The term may have originated among U.S. Marines during the Philippine–American War (1899–1902). It is used mainly in the UK to refer to people who are of the Traveller community, a set of ethno-cultural groups found primarily in Great Britain and Ireland. It is also used against Romanichal Travellers, Welsh Kale, Scottish Lowland Travellers, Scottish Highland Travellers, and Funfair Travellers.

The slur is used primarily in the United Kingdom, Scandinavia, the Benelux and Canada, where the term is commonly associated with "Paki-bashing", which consists of violent attacks against people of perceived Pakistani and South Asian origin.
