Hotel d'Angeli's was a restaurant established by Giacomo D'Angelis at Mount Road, Madras in 1906. The hotel is considered to have spearheaded the introduction of modern technology in India.
Giacomo D'Angelis, a Corsican confectioner arrived in India in 1880 and set up Maison Francaise in Mount Road in the same year. d'Angeli described Maison Francaise as a "manufacturing confectioner, glacie & C.,, general purveyor and mess contractor". The firm was the first in India to operate a catering service and became the official caterer to the Governor of Madras during the time of Lord Ampthill.
In 1906, d' Angeli founded "Hotel d'Angeli's" at the Anna statue junction, where Blacker's Road meets Mount Road. The hotel was the first in Madras to have an electric lift, hot water taps, electric fans, imported tiles, ice-making plant and cold storage.

Jean Baptiste Charles Henri Hector, comte d'Estaing was a French general and admiral. He began his service as a soldier in the War of the Austrian Succession, briefly spending time as a prisoner of war of the British during the Seven Years' War. Naval exploits during the latter war prompted him to change branches of service, and he transferred to the French Navy.
Chennai International Airport is an international airport serving the city of Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India, and its metropolitan area. It is located in Tirusulam, 21 km (13 mi) from the city centre. Chennai International Airport is the third busiest in international traffic and cargo capacity in the country behind New Delhi and Mumbai. It is the fourth busiest airport in country's overall passenger traffic behind New Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore. It is also 49th busiest airport in Asia making it one of the four major airports in India under the top 50 list. The airport is served by the airport metro station of the Chennai Metro and the Tirusulam railway station of the Chennai Suburban Railway system. To cope with the passenger traffic, two new terminals, namely, T2 and one satellite terminal, are under construction to handle 40 million passengers per year. Once completed, it will be India's first airport to have a satellite terminal. The new satellite terminal will be connected through a four way underground walkalator for passenger movement across different terminals. Still, the Tirusulam airport complex is expected to reach saturation by 2035, with a peak capacity of 40 million passengers, and a proposal for a new greenfield airport in Chennai is underway for decades. Once the new airport is commissioned, both the airports will be functional.
The Madras Presidency, or the Presidency of Fort St. George, and also known as Madras Province, was an administrative subdivision (presidency) of British India. At its greatest extent, the presidency included most of southern India, including the whole of the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh, and parts of Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Telangana, Odisha and the union territory of Lakshadweep. The city of Madras was the winter capital of the Presidency and Ootacamund or Ooty, the summer capital. The Island of Ceylon was a part of Madras Presidency from 1793 to 1798 when it was created a Crown colony. Madras Presidency was neighboured by the Kingdom of Mysore on the northwest, Kingdom of Kochi on the southwest, and the Kingdom of Hyderabad on the north. Some parts of the presidency were also flanked by Bombay Presidency and Madhya Pradesh.

Egmore is a neighbourhood of Chennai, India. Situated on the northern banks of the Coovum River, Egmore is an important residential area as well as a commercial and transportation hub. It continues to be an important railway junction. The Government Museum, Chennai is also situated in Egmore. Edgar ThurstonCIE was a superintendent at the Madras Government Museum who contributed to studies in the zoology, ethnology and botany of India and published works related to his work at the museum. Thurston was educated in medicine and lectured in anatomy at the Madras Medical College while also holding his position at the museum. His early works were on numismatics and geology and these were followed by researches in anthropology and ethnography. He succeeded Frederick S. Mullaly as the superintendent of ethnography for the Madras Presidency.
