Judson M. Harper, vice president for research at Colorado State University, will become interim president effective Aug. 15, the school's governing board announced yesterday. Harper, 52, who said he will return to the research post when a permanent president is named, succeeds Philip E. Austin, 47, who will become chancellor of the University of Alabama system before the next school year opens.
The State Board of Agriculture voted unanimously yesterday to name a soft-spoken chemist respected as a tough decision-maker to the posts of president and chancellor of the Colorado State University system. Albert C. Yates, 48, becomes the first black to serve as president of a major Colorado public university and chancellor of a Colorado higher-education system... Yates' last day as president is today, and he will retire as chancellor of the CSU System by the end of September... Larry Penley takes over as CSU president Friday.
Penley, 54, was introduced as Colorado State University's 13th president during a reception at Ammons Hall attended by nearly 200 CSU faculty, students, staff and supporters, including the man he is replacing, CSU President Albert Yates. Yates is retiring this summer after 13 years at CSU.
Penley resigned Wednesday as president and chancellor of CSU after five years on the job... His resignation is effective Nov. 30... On Wednesday, Penley tendered his resignation, effective at the end of the month. Tony Frank, the current provost and senior executive vice president, will serve as interim president at CSU after Larry Penley leaves at the end of the month.
On June 30, Dr. Tony Frank will end his tenure as president of Colorado State University in Fort Collins. On July 1, he will begin serving full-time as the Chancellor of the three-campus Colorado State University System.
McConnell will become the 15th President of Colorado State University, the state's land grant university. Currently serving as provost and vice president for academic affairs at West Virginia University, McConnell, who will assume the top position at CSU on July 1, 2019, said she is honored to be selected to help lead what is an exceptional institution of higher education.

The Board of Governors of the Colorado State University System today announced that Rick Miranda, chief academic officer for the CSU System, will serve as interim president of the CSU flagship campus in Fort Collins while the Board undertakes a national search for the 16th president of CSU. Miranda, who will assume the interim role July 1, will not apply for the permanent position.
