Founded in 1925, the University of Miami is located in Coral Gables, Florida, 7 miles (11 km) south of Downtown Miami in the Miami metropolitan area, the largest metropolitan area in Florida, ninth-largest metropolitan area in the nation, and 65th-largest metropolitan area in the world. The university is a private research university that offers 138 undergraduate, 140 master's, and 67 doctoral degree programs across 12 schools and colleges with nearly 350 majors and programs.
The University of Miami is a major research university with $375 million of annual research and sponsored program expenditures, making it the 71st-largest university for research in the nation. Its undergraduate academic admissions standards are the highest of any university or college in the state of Florida, [2] and the university is Carnegie-classified as "Doctoral Universities: Very High Research Activity." University of Miami faculty include globally-recognized leaders in most academic disciplines, including four Nobel Prize winners to date.
With 16,479 faculty and staff, the University of Miami is the second-largest employer in Miami-Dade County, the most populous county in Florida and seventh-most populous county in the nation. The University of Miami has been regularly ranked one of the top universities in the U.S. by U.S. News & World Report , which ranks it the 55th-best national university as of 2022. The University of Miami campus spans 240 acres (0.97 km2) and has over 5,700,000 square feet (530,000 m2) of buildings. It has an endowment of $1.4 billion as of 2021.
The university's athletic teams are collectively known as the Miami Hurricanes and compete in Division I of the National Collegiate Athletic Association. Its football team has won five national championships since 1983 and its baseball team has won four national championships since 1982. [3]

Tracy Lamar McGrady Jr., nicknamed T-Mac, is an American former professional basketball player, best known for his career in the National Basketball Association (NBA). McGrady is a seven-time NBA All-Star, seven-time All-NBA selection, two-time NBA scoring champion, and winner of the NBA Most Improved Player Award in 2001. He was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame as part of the Class of 2017. McGrady is regarded as one of the greatest scorers and shooting guards in NBA history.
Michael Rene Mularkey is an American former professional football coach and tight end in the National Football League (NFL). He played college football for the University of Florida, and was drafted in the ninth round of the 1983 NFL draft by the San Francisco 49ers and lasted until the final round of cuts. Mularkey then signed with the Minnesota Vikings with whom he played for six seasons before playing another three with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Udonis Johneal Haslem is an American former professional basketball player who is currently the Vice President of Basketball Development for the Miami Heat, where he spent his entire 20-year career in the National Basketball Association (NBA). Haslem played college basketball for the Florida Gators, where he was a key member of four NCAA tournament teams. Haslem began his professional career in France with Chalon-sur-Saône and then signed with his hometown Miami Heat in 2003, becoming the longest-tenured player in franchise history. Haslem won three NBA championships with the Heat, making him one of only three players in NBA history to play at least 20 years with one team.
The Miami Hurricanes football team represents the University of Miami in college football. He is the head football coach at his alma mater, the University of Louisville, a position he has held since the 2023 season. Brohm played college football for the Louisville Cardinals under coach Howard Schnellenberger from 1989 to 1993. He played professionally in the National Football League (NFL) for seven seasons from 1994 to 2000 and the XFL in 2001. Brohm served as the head football coach at Western Kentucky University from 2014 to 2016 and Purdue University from 2017 to 2022.

Timothy Richard Tebow is an American former professional football quarterback who played in the National Football League (NFL) for three seasons, primarily with the Denver Broncos. Duncan McBryde Robinson is an American professional basketball player for the Miami Heat of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He played college basketball for the NCAA Division III Williams College Ephs and then the NCAA Division I Michigan Wolverines. He transferred to Michigan after leading Williams College to the 2014 NCAA Division III men's basketball tournament championship game. At Michigan, he was part of the 2017–18 team that lost to Villanova in the championship game of the 2018 NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament.
