The 16th Senate District of Wisconsin is one of 33 districts in the Wisconsin Senate. [1] Located in south-central Wisconsin, the district comprises much of eastern Dane County, western Jefferson County, and part of southwest Dodge County. It includes the cities of Fitchburg, Fort Atkinson, Lake Mills, Stoughton, Sun Prairie, and Waterloo, and the villages of Cottage Grove, Deerfield, and Marshall, and parts of the city of Madison and the village of McFarland. It also contains Lake Kegonsa State Park and most of Lake Koshkonong. [2]

Current elected officials

Melissa Agard is the senator representing the 16th district. She was first elected in the 2020 general election. Before serving as senator, she served in the Wisconsin State Assembly from 2013 to 2021, representing Madison's north side. [3]

Each Wisconsin State Senate district is composed of three Wisconsin State Assembly districts. The 16th Senate district comprises the 46th, 47th, and 48th Assembly districts. The current representatives of those districts are: [4]

The district crosses two congressional districts. The portion of the district in Dodge and Jefferson counties fall within Wisconsin's 5th congressional district, which is represented by U.S. Representative Scott L. Fitzgerald. The remainder of the district, in Dane County, falls within Wisconsin's 2nd congressional district, represented by U.S. Representative Mark Pocan. [5]

Located in northwest Wisconsin, where Wisconsin meets Lake Superior, the district comprises all of Ashland, Bayfield, Burnett, Douglas, Iron, Polk, Sawyer, and Washburn counties. It contains the cities of Superior, Ashland, Bayfield, Hayward, Spooner, and Washburn. The district also includes the Bad River Indian reservation and the Chequamegon–Nicolet National Forest.

Located in southeastern Wisconsin, the district comprises most of western Waukesha County along with parts of eastern Jefferson County, southwest Washington County, and southeast Dodge County. It includes the cities of Delafield, Hartford, and Oconomowoc, and the villages of Chenequa, Dousman, Eagle, Hartland, Lac La Belle, Merton, Neosho, North Prairie, Palmyra, Sussex, and Wales.

Melissa Kristen Agard is an American small business owner and Democratic politician from Madison, Wisconsin. She is a member of the Wisconsin Senate, representing the 16th Senate district since 2021. She also served as minority leader in the Senate for most of 2023. She previously served four terms in the Wisconsin State Assembly, when she was primarily known as Melissa Sargent.

The 46th Assembly District of Wisconsin is one of 99 districts in the Wisconsin State Assembly. Located in southern Wisconsin, the district comprises most of the west half of Jefferson County and parts of eastern Dane County. It includes the cities of Fort Atkinson, Lake Mills, and Waterloo, and the villages of Cambridge, Deerfield, and Rockdale, along with nearly all of the village of Cottage Grove and part of the village of McFarland. The district also contains Aztalan State Park and the Goose Lake Wildlife Area. The district is represented by Democrat Melissa Ratcliff, since January 2023.

The 47th Assembly District of Wisconsin is one of 99 districts in the Wisconsin State Assembly. Located in southern Wisconsin, the district comprises part of southern Dane County, including the cities of Fitchburg and Stoughton, and part of the village of McFarland. The district also contains Lake Kegonsa State Park. The seat is represented by Democrat Jimmy P. Anderson since January 2017. Prior to the Wisconsin Supreme Court overturning the 2020 district boundaries, District 47 was often used as one of the more extreme examples of Gerrymandering in the Wisconsin Legislature with the boundaries being compared to "swiss cheese".

The 48th Assembly District of Wisconsin is one of 99 districts in the Wisconsin State Assembly. Located in south-central Wisconsin, the district comprises parts of northeast Dane County and the towns of Elba and Portland in southwest Dodge County. It includes the city of Sun Prairie, and parts of the city of Madison including the Ridgewood, Mayfair Park, Burke Heights and High Crossing neighborhoods. The district also contains East Towne Mall. The seat is represented by Democrat Samba Baldeh since January 2021.

The 78th Assembly District of Wisconsin is one of 99 districts in the Wisconsin State Assembly. Located in south-central Wisconsin, the district is entirely contained within central Dane County. It includes most of the south and roughly half of the east side of the city of Madison, along with the city of Monona and most of the village of McFarland. The district contains the Capital Springs State Recreation Area and the Alliant Energy Center. The district is represented by Democrat Lisa Subeck, since January 2015.
