Fitchburg is a city in Dane County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 29,609 at the 2020 census. It is a suburb south of Madison and is part of the Madison metropolitan area. Fitchburg consists of a mix of suburban neighborhoods closer to the border with Madison, commercial and industrial properties, and rural properties in the south.
Wisconsin's 2nd congressional district is a congressional district of the United States House of Representatives in southern Wisconsin, covering Dane County, Iowa County, Lafayette County, Sauk County and Green County, as well as portions of Richland County and Rock County. The district includes Madison, the state's capital, its suburbs and the surrounding areas. The district also includes the University of Wisconsin–Madison campus, and like many districts of this era anchored by a college town, the district is overwhelmingly Democratic.

It contains the cities of Superior, Ashland, Bayfield, Hayward, Spooner, and Washburn. The district also includes the Bad River Indian reservation and the Chequamegon–Nicolet National Forest.

Melissa Kristen Agard is an American small business owner and Democratic politician from Madison, Wisconsin. She is a member of the Wisconsin Senate, representing the 16th Senate district since 2021. She also served as minority leader in the Senate for most of 2023. She previously served four terms in the Wisconsin State Assembly, when she was primarily known as Melissa Sargent.

Located in southern Wisconsin, the district comprises most of the west half of Jefferson County and parts of eastern Dane County. It includes the cities of Fort Atkinson, Lake Mills, and Waterloo, and the villages of Cambridge, Deerfield, and Rockdale, along with nearly all of the village of Cottage Grove and part of the village of McFarland. Prior to the Wisconsin Supreme Court overturning the 2020 district boundaries, District 47 was often used as one of the more extreme examples of Gerrymandering in the Wisconsin Legislature with the boundaries being compared to "swiss cheese".

It includes the city of Sun Prairie, and parts of the city of Madison including the Ridgewood, Mayfair Park, Burke Heights and High Crossing neighborhoods. The district also contains East Towne Mall. The seat is represented by Democrat Samba Baldeh since January 2021.
