The International Meeting of Communist and Workers' Parties (IMCWP) is an annual conference attended by communist and workers' parties from several countries. It originated in 1998 when the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) invited communist and workers' parties to participate in an annual conference where parties could gather to share their experiences and issue a joint declaration. [1] The most recent and 23rd meeting of the IMCWP was held in October 2023 in Izmir and was hosted by the Communist Party of Turkey (TKP). [2] The 24th meeting was scheduled to be held in Lebanon, hosted by the Lebanese Communist Party (LCP) between 25-27 October, [3] but was postponed due to the Israeli invasion of Lebanon. [4]
The Working Group (WG) of International Meeting of Communist and Workers' Parties (IMCWP) is composed of Communist Parties throughout the world. The task of the working group is to prepare and organize the International Meetings of Communist and Workers' Parties (IMCWPs). [5] [6]
The meetings are held annually, with participants from all around the globe. Additionally, there are occasionally extraordinary meetings such as the meeting in Damascus in September 2009 on "Solidarity with the heroic struggle of the Palestinian people and the other people in Middle East". [7] In December 2009, the communist and workers' parties agreed to the creation of the International Communist Review, which is published annually in English and Spanish and has a website. [8]

The 23rd meeting of the Communist and Workers' Parties was held from 20 to 22 October 2023, in İzmir, Turkey with the Communist Party of Turkey as hosting party. Members in attendance included: [29]
The 22nd meeting of the Communist and Workers' Parties was held from 27 to 29 October 2022, in Havana, Cuba with the Communist Party of Cuba as hosting party. The themes for the meeting where "Solidarity with Cuba and all the struggling peoples. United we are stronger in the anti-imperialist struggle, together with social and popular movements, in the face of capitalism and its policies, the threat of fascism and war; in defense of peace, the environment, workers' rights, solidarity and socialism." [30] The final declaration of the meeting includes; denouncing "the strengthening and expansion of NATO", "the aggravation of tensions and military conflicts, such as the one in Ukraine" and "the resurgence of fascism in various parts of the world" and calling for unity to combat the "reemergence of anti-communist, reactionary, ultra-nationalist and fascist forces in various parts of the world". [31] Additionally, the meeting called for mobilization of support in favor of the Polisario Front, promoting international solidarity with the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, and support for Puerto Rican independence. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, delegates to the International Meeting of Communist and Workers' Parties did not meet in 2020. However, a virtual meeting was held over Zoom on 10 and 11 December 2021. [11]
The 21st International Meeting of Communist and Workers' Parties, with the theme "100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist International. The fight for peace and socialism continues", took place in Izmir, Turkey, from 18 to 20 October 2019, and was hosted by the Communist Party of Turkey and the Communist Party of Greece. [32]
The 20th International Meeting of Communist and Workers' Parties, with the theme "The contemporary working class and its alliance. The tasks of its political vanguard – the Communist and Worker's Parties – in the struggle against exploitation and imperialist wars, for the rights of the workers and of the peoples, for peace, for socialism", took place in Athens, Greece, from 23 to 25 November 2018. [33]
The 19th International Meeting of Communist and Workers' Parties, with the theme "The 100th Anniversary of the Great October Socialist Revolution:the ideals of the Communist Movement, revitalizing the struggle against imperialistic wars, for peace, socialism", took place in St. Petersburg, Russia, from 2 to 3 November 2017 and in Moscow, Russia, from 5 to 7 November 2017. The 18th International Meeting of Communist and Workers' Parties took place in Hanoi, Vietnam, from 28 to 30 October 2016. [39]
The 17th International Meeting of Communist and Workers' Parties took place in Istanbul, Turkey, from 30 October to 1 November 2015. [40]
The 16th International Meeting of Communist and Workers' Parties took place from 13 to 15 November 2014 in Guayaquil, Ecuador. It was attended by 85 delegates representing 53 parties from 44 countries. [41]
The 15th International Meeting of Communist and Workers' Parties took place from 8 to 10 November 2013 in Lisbon, Portugal.
The 14th International Meeting of Communist and Workers' Parties took place from 22 to 25 November 2012 in Beirut, Lebanon.
The 13th meeting was held in Athens, Greece, from 9 to 11 December 2011 and was hosted by the Communist Party of Greece (KKE). Under the motto "Socialism is the future!", it was attended by 80 parties, while additional eight parties sent a message.
The 13th meeting was held in Johannesburg, South Africa, from 3 to 5 December 2010 and was hosted by the South African Communist Party.
The 11th meeting was held in New Delhi, India, from 20 to 22 November 2009 and was hosted by both the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and the Communist Party of India. It was attended by 89 participants representing 57 communist and workers' parties and 48 countries. [42]
The 10th meeting was held in São Paulo, Brazil, from 21 to 23 November 2008 and was hosted by the Communist Party of Brazil (PCdoB). It was attended by delegations of 65 communist and workers' parties from 55 countries. [43]
The 9th meeting was held in Minsk, Belarus, from 3 to 5 November 2007 and was hosted by the Communist Party of Belarus (KPB). It was attended by 154 representatives of 72 communist and workers' parties, representing 59 countries. [44]
The Chinese Communist Party (CCP), officially the Communist Party of China (CPC), is the founding and sole ruling party of the People's Republic of China (PRC). Under the leadership of Mao Zedong, the CCP emerged victorious in the Chinese Civil War against the Kuomintang. In 1949, Mao proclaimed the establishment of the People's Republic of China. Since then, the CCP has governed China and has had sole control over the People's Liberation Army (PLA). Successive leaders of the CCP have added their own theories to the party's constitution, which outlines the party's ideology, collectively referred to as socialism with Chinese characteristics. As of 2024, the CCP has more than 99 million members, making it the second largest political party by membership in the world after India's Bharatiya Janata Party.
The hammer and sickle is a communist symbol representing proletarian solidarity between agricultural and industrial workers. It was first adopted during the Russian Revolution at the end of World War I, the hammer representing workers and the sickle representing the peasants.
The Communist Party of Brazil is a political party in Brazil. The PCdoB officially adheres to Marxist–Leninist theory. It has national reach and deep penetration in the trade union and student movements.
The Communist Party of Australia (CPA) is a communist party in Australia. It was founded in 1971 as the Socialist Party of Australia (SPA) and adopted its current name in 1996. The party was established by former members of the original Communist Party of Australia who resigned or were expelled due to internal disagreements over the Warsaw Pact invasion of Czechoslovakia and the party's adoption of Eurocommunism. The party had its first and only electoral win in 2012 when it gained a seat on the Auburn City Council, which they held until 2016.
São Paulo Forum (FSP), also known as the Foro de São Paulo, is a conference of left-wing political parties and organizations from the Americas, primarily Latin America and the Caribbean. It was launched by the Workers' Party of Brazil in 1990 in the city of São Paulo.
In 1960 an International Meeting of Communist and Workers Parties was held in Moscow. It was preceded by a conference of 12 Communist and Workers Parties of Socialist countries held in Moscow November 1957 and the Bucharest Conference of Representatives of Communist and Workers Parties in June 1960. Issues discussed at these meetings are associated with the Sino-Soviet split.
The Communist Party of Turkey is a communist party in Turkey. It was founded as the Socialist Power Party on 16 August 1993. In 2001, the party changed its name to the Communist Party of Turkey (TKP) and took over the historical legacy of the TKP.

The Communist Party of Britain (CPB) is a communist party in Great Britain which emerged from a dispute between Eurocommunists and Marxist-Leninists in the Communist Party of Great Britain in 1988. It follows Marxist-Leninist theory and supports what it regards as existing socialist states. The party has fraternal relationships with the ruling parties in Cuba, China, Laos, and Vietnam. It is affiliated nationally to the Cuba Solidarity Campaign and the Venezuela Solidarity Campaign. It is a member of the International Meeting of Communist and Workers' Parties, together with 117 other political parties. After the fall of the Soviet Union, the party was one of two original British signatories to the Pyongyang Declaration.

On 5–17 June 1969, an International Meeting of Communist and Workers Parties was held in Moscow. The meeting occurred in the aftermath of the Sino-Soviet split and the Soviet intervention in Czechoslovakia. The preceding international meeting, held in Moscow in 1960, had been dominated by disputes between the Communist Party of the Soviet Union on one hand and the Communist Party of China and the Party of Labour of Albania on the other. By this time the split between the two poles had been finalized. Pro-Chinese elements were absent from this event. However the phenomenon of Eurocommunism had begun to emerge, which was notable amongst some of the delegations present.
The Party for Socialism and Liberation (PSL) is a communist political party in the United States. PSL formed in 2004, when its members split from the Workers World Party.
The Communist Party of Macedonia, also as League of Communists of Macedonia – Freedom Movement, is a communist party in North Macedonia. The party was de-registered due to low membership in 2007; however, it remains active and participates in the International Meeting of Communist and Workers' Parties. In 2015, it was one of three principal creators, along with the Movement for Social Justice "Lenka" and members of the Left Movement "Solidarity", of the new political party Levica. Levica won 2 seats in the 2020 North Macedonian parliamentary election.
The World Anti-Imperialist Platform is a political organization formed in 2022, which describes itself as being opposed to American imperialism. Platform's membership is mostly composed of communist parties that adhere to the Marxist-Leninist philosophy. The organization has been criticized by some communist parties and groups for ignoring Russian neo-imperialism and Chinese imperialism.
The Socialist Party is a left-wing Marxist political association in Lithuania formed on October 21, 2018, from a split of the Socialist People's Front.
