Chennai, formerly known as Madras, is the capital city of Tamil Nadu, the southernmost Indian state. It is the state's primate city both in area and population and is located on the Coromandel Coast of the Bay of Bengal. According to the 2011 Indian census, Chennai is the sixth-most populous city in India and forms the fourth-most populous urban agglomeration. Incorporated in 1866, the Greater Chennai Corporation is the oldest municipal corporation of India and the second oldest in the world after London.

The Chennai Mass Rapid Transit System, a state-owned subsidiary of Indian Railways, is a metropolitan elevated railway line in Chennai, India. Operated by the Southern Railways, it is the first elevated railway line in India and also the country's longest elevated corridor spanning 17 km. Although it is segregated from the Chennai Suburban Railway, they both are operated by Southern Railway and are integrated in a wider urban rail network. Built at a cost of ₹ 15,710 million, the line runs within the city limits from Chennai Beach to Velachery, covering a distance of 19.34 km (12.02 mi) with 18 stations, with an average daily ridership of 100,000 commuters. Connecting the central business area of old Madras with the IT corridor, the section has a potential capacity of 425,000 passengers a day. In 2011–2012, MRTS registered a revenue of ₹ 198.9 million, registering a 16.25 percent increase, with 134 trains plying across all the 17 stations.
Adambakkam is a neighbourhood of Chennai, India. It is primarily a residential locality situated in South Chennai. Adambakkam area comes under Velachery taluk and Alandur taluk, Chennai District of Chennai Corporation. Adambakkam is surrounded by areas namely, Alandur in the North-West, Nanganallur in the West, Madipakkam in the South, Velachery in the East and Guindy in the North. Earlier, one part of Adambakkam was under the direct governance of Chennai Corporation. From October 2011 onwards, the entire area was merged with the Chennai Corporation. Upon completion of the MRTS extension line, the neighbourhood will be served by Adambakkam railway station. Chennai Mofussil Bus Terminus, officially Puratchi Thalaivar Dr. M.G.R. Bus Terminus, is a bus terminus located in Chennai, India, providing inter-state bus transport services. It is located on the 100 feet (30 m) Jawaharlal Nehru Salai in Koyambedu between SAF Games Village and the Koyambedu Vegetable Market. It is the second largest bus terminus in India as well as Asia. Chennai Metro Rail has operated a coach depot behind the bus terminus since 2015.
The Chennai Metro is a rapid transit system serving the city of Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. It is the 4th longest metro system in India. The system commenced service in 2015 after partially opening the first phase of the project. The current network consists of two colour-coded lines covering a length of 54 kilometres (34 mi). The Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL), a joint venture between Government of India and the Government of Tamil Nadu built and operates the Chennai Metro. The system has a mix of underground and elevated stations and uses standard gauge. The services operate daily between 05:30 and 23:00 with a varying frequency of 2 to 8 minutes.

The Kochi Metro is a rapid transit system serving the city of Kochi in Kerala, India. It was opened to the public within four years of starting construction, making it one of the fastest completed metro projects in India. The Kochi metro project is the first metro in the country which connects rail, road and water transport facilities. The first phase is being set up at an estimated cost of ₹51.81 billion (US$650 million). In October 2017, Kochi Metro was named the Best Urban Mobility Project in India by the Urban Development Ministry, as part of the Urban Mobility India (UMI) international conference hosted by the ministry every year. The Kochi Water Metro is integrated with the Kochi Metro, which serves as a feeder service to the suburbs along the rivers where transport accesibility is limited.
Green Line of Namma Metro was built along with the Purple Line during the first phase of construction of the metro rail system for the city of Bengaluru, Karnataka, India. The 30.5 km (19.0 mi) line connects Nagasandra in the northwest to Silk Institute in the south. The line connects the industrial centers of Peenya and Yelahanka in the north with the central hub of Majestic and the southern residential areas of Bangalore. Green Line is mostly elevated, with 26 elevated stations and 3 underground stations. The Line passes through Majestic station which is an interchange station between Green and Purple Lines.
As of 2019, there are 632 parks in Chennai City, including 142 parks in the north zone, 224 in the central zone, and 266 in the south zone. They range in size from 700 square metres to 5,000 square metres. A couple of the parks, including the Anna Nagar Tower Park, are spread across acres. In 2018, the city's green cover was estimated to be 14.9 percent, up from an estimated 4.5 percent in 2011. The per capita green cover of the city has been estimated at 8.5 square meters, as against the World Health Organization recommendation of 9 square meters of green cover per capita in cities. The city lost around 100,000 trees in December 2016 because of Cyclone Vardah. As of 2018, the city's tree cover is estimated to be around 64.06 sq km. This is just over 15 percent of the entire city. The most dominant species of trees in the city are copper pod, Indian beech, neem, gulmohar, raintree, and tropical almond. The overall extent of open space in the city is 34.58 km2. In all, the city has 121 species of trees belonging to 94 genera and 42 families. Teynampet zone remains the most diverse with 68 species, and Manali zone with just 38 species is the least. With 51 parks, Adyar remains the zone with the highest number of parks in the city, and Tiruvottiyur zone scores the least with only 4 parks. The share of Chennai's greenspace is dominated by the Guindy National Park, with an area of 2.71 sq km, which covers a vast area south of the Adyar River.
Koyambedu Wholesale Market Complex (KWMC) is one of Asia's largest perishable goods market complex located at Koyambedu, Chennai. The market complex is spread over an area of 295 acres (1.19 km2). Inaugurated in 1996, the complex consists of about 3,100 shops, including more than 1,000 wholesale shops and 2,000 retail shops. Of these, 850 are fruit shops. It abuts the Poonamallee High Road and Nesapakkam Road. In Phase I, a wholesale market for perishables was developed in an area of around 70 acres (280,000 m2) by constructing 3,194 shops. The market has two blocks for vegetable shops and one each for fruit and flower shops. In Phase II, a textile market and in Phase III, a food grain market have been planned to be developed in the complex.
Vadapalani Metro station is a Metro railway station on the Line 2 of the Chennai Metro, which is currently under operation. The station is among the elevated stations along corridor II of the Chennai Metro, Chennai Central–St. Thomas Mount stretch. The station serves the neighbourhoods of Vadapalani and Kodambakkam.
CMBT Metro, officially known as Puratchi Thalaivi Dr. J. Jayalalithaa CMBT Metro, is an elevated metro station on the Line 2 of the Chennai Metro, which is currently under operation. The station is among the elevated stations coming up along corridor II of the Chennai Metro, Chennai Central – St. Thomas Mount stretch. The station will chiefly serve the Chennai Mofussil Bus Terminus. On 31 July 2020, It has been named by Government of Tamil Nadu as Puratchi Thalaivi Dr. J. Jayalalithaa CMBT Metro to honor the former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu J. Jayalalithaa, who inaugurated the Puratchi Thalaivar Dr. M.G.R Bus Terminus, Asia's biggest bus terminus and the metro station.
The Central Square is a city square and major intersection in Chennai. Areas surrounding the Ripon Building, Victoria Public Hall, Moore Market Complex, Chennai Central Railway Station, the Southern Railway Headquarters and the Government General Hospital are being developed as part of the Central Square. The total site area is estimated to be about 37,800 square meters, and the development is estimated to cost about ₹4 billion (US$50 million) and will be funded by the CMDA.
East West Metro Tunnel is a constructed underwater river tunnel of Kolkata Metro in Kolkata, West Bengal. The river tunnel is constructed underneath Hooghly River. It is the biggest underwater river tunnel of South Asia and as well as India, which is made for metro rail service. The East West Metro Tunnel length is 10.8 km (6.7 mi) and width is 5.5 metres. A 520 m stretch of the tracks will go through a tunnel under the Hooghly River. The roof of the tunnel would be about 30 metres from the ground level. The tunnel is been completed in 2021. The tunnel is used by East West Metro Line for metro rail service and constructed by Kolkata Metro Rail Corporation.
Nehru Park Metro station is a Metro railway station on Line 2 of the Chennai Metro. The station is among the underground stations coming up along corridor II of the Chennai Metro, Chennai Central–St. Thomas Mount stretch inaugurated on 14 May 2017. The station will serve the neighbourhoods of Egmore and Purasawalkam.
KIlambakkam Bus Terminus, officially Kalaignar Centenary Bus Terminus, is under construction bus terminus in Kilambakkam, Urapakkam along GST Road on the outskirts of Chennai for catering to the bus services towards the Southern districts of Tamil Nadu. Spread over an area of 88.52 acres (358,200 m2), it is built to decongest the Chennai Mofussil Bus Terminus in Koyambedu. It will chiefly handle buses to southern Tamil Nadu, including cities such as Kanniyakumari, Madurai, Thoothukudi, Tiruchirappalli, Tirunelveli, Tiruvannamalai, Sengottai, Thanjavur and Villupuram. It is an integrated bus terminus of mofussil buses operated by TNSTC, SETC and contractual (omni) buses. It will be connected to other parts of the Chennai Metropolitan Area and suburbs by MTC buses. Once the construction is completed this one will be Asia's biggest Bus Station.
Central Metro, officially Puratchi Thalaivar Dr. M.G. Ramachandran Central metro station, is an underground metro station in Chennai, India. It serves both lines of the Chennai Metro. Central metro station is spread over an area of 30,000 square metres (320,000 sq ft). On 31 July 2020, It has been named by Government of Tamil Nadu as Puratchi Thalaivar Dr. M.G. Ramachandran Central Metro to honor the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam founder and the former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu M. G. Ramachandran.
