The S postcode area, also known as the Sheffield postcode area,is a group of postcode districts in England, which are subdivisions of eight post towns. These cover most of South Yorkshire (post towns Sheffield, Barnsley, Rotherham and Mexborough), parts of north Denbighshire (post towns Chesterfield, Dronfield and the Hope Valley) and north-west Nottinghamshire (post town Worksop).
For 1857–1868 an S sector of the London postal district existed.
Similarly, there were also S-prefixed postal districts in the compass-based system used in Glasgow: Glasgow S1, S2, S3 and S4 areas changed to postcodes G41 to G44.
S64, Mexborough post town, was earmarked for use as DN13 which has never been used, see DN postcode area.

The E (Eastern) postcode area, also known as the London E postcode area, is the part of the London post town covering much of the east of Greater London, England as well as Sewardstone, Essex. It borders the N postcode area to the west, equally north of the tidal Thames. Since closure of the East London mail centre its mail is sorted at Romford Mail Centre as for IG and RM postcode areas.
The IG postcode area, also known as the Ilford postcode area, is a group of eleven postcode districts in England, within six post towns. These cover parts of east London and south-west Essex. Inward mail for the area is sorted, along with mail for the E and RM postcode areas, at the Romford Mail Centre.
The SM postcode area, also known as the Sutton postcode area, is a group of seven postcode districts in England, within five post towns. These cover part of south-west London, as well as a small part of north Surrey.

In 2011 it had a census return population of 1,162,976 therefore was the UK's fifth most populous. It has seven non-geographic postcode districts. The geographic series is consecutive but NE50 to NE59 do not exist; numbering then goes from NE60 upwards to reach parts of northern Northumberland.
The CF postcode area, also known as the Cardiff postcode area, is a group of 35 geographic postcode districts for post towns: Cardiff, Bridgend, Merthyr Tydfil, Caerphilly, Aberdare, Bargoed, Barry, Cowbridge, Dinas Powys, Ferndale, Hengoed, Llantwit Major, Maesteg, Mountain Ash, Penarth, Pentre, Pontyclun, Pontypridd, Porth, Porthcawl, Rhoose, Sully, Tonypandy, Treharris and Treorchy in south Wales. As at 2020 there are four non-geographic CF postcodes. It approximately equals Glamorgan apart from its west.
