The nine-pin bowling World Team Championships is a biennial nine-pin bowling competition organized by the World Ninepin Bowling Association (WNBA NBC). The World Championships was started in 2005, after dividing the championships into Team and Single's. [1] [2] [3]

Contents

During the first championships in Novi Sad, the sprint events took place for the last time. Since 2009, the World Team Championships have in the program only team tournaments, after removing mixed tandems.

International Bowling Federation and World Bowling (WB) between 2014 and November 2020 is the world governing body of ninepin and tenpin bowling. IBF was founded in 1952 in Hamburg, Germany by officials of the International Bowling Association to foster worldwide interest in amateur ten-pin and nine-pin bowling, as well as international friendship by encouraging world and zone tournaments and other competition between bowlers of different countries. IBF has been recognized by the International Olympic Committee since 1979 as the governing body for bowling sports. Starting with five member federations in 1952, it grew to 141 in 2010.

Nine-pin bowling is a bowling game played primarily in Europe. European championships are held each year. Over 90,000 members are on teams in Germany, often playing in officially registered Bundeskegelbahnen to be found in almost every sizable town. In Europe overall, there are some 130,000 players. Nine-pin bowling lanes are often found in Austria, Czechia, Slovakia, Belgium, Germany, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Estonia, Switzerland, Serbia, Slovenia, Croatia, Poland, North Macedonia, Hungary, Brazil and Liechtenstein. The English-speaking countries, having a predominance of facilities for the modern ten-pin sport which originated in the United States, as well as regionally popular "small-ball" bowling sports of various types, do not have many facilities in existence for the nine-pin game in the 21st century. On the other hand, a modified version is played in the US state of Texas.

The Fédération Internationale des Quilleurs (FIQ) is the World Bowling Federation. The FIQ is subdivided into two disciplines, the World Ninepin Bowling Association (WNBA) and the World Tenpin Bowling Association (WTBA). Both organizations were founded by the FIQ in 1973 in London. The WNBA counts approximately 250.000 members in 26 countries on three continents.

The 1953 nine-pin bowling World Championships was the first edition of the championships and were held in Belgrade, Yugoslavia, from 21-24 June 1953. Germany sent a united team composed of players from the GDR and the FRG.

The 1955 nine-pin bowling World Championships was the second edition of the championships and was held in Essen, West Germany, from 30 August to 5 September 1955.

The 2017 nine-pin bowling World Team Championships were the seventh edition of the team championships and held in Dettenheim, Germany, from 19 May to 27 May 2017.

2021 nine-pin bowling World Team Championships

The 2021 nine-pin bowling World Team Championships will be the ninth edition of the team championships and held in Tarnowo Podgórne, Poland, in October 2021. Initially scheduled to take place from 19 May to 29 May 2021 and be held in Plauen, Germany, however, on August 31, 2020, the contract with the WNBA was terminated.
