The Island, also called as Island Grounds, is a river island situated on the Cooum River in the northern part of the Indian city of Chennai. The island was created artificially in the early 19th century by merging the Coovum River with the then "Elambore River". Tangasseri Lighthouse or Thangassery Lighthouse is situated at Tangasseri in Kollam city of the Indian state of Kerala. It is one of the two lighthouses in the Kollam Metropolitan Area and is maintained by the Cochin Directorate General of Lighthouses and Lightships. In operation since 1902, the cylindrical lighthouse tower painted with white and red oblique bands has a height of 41 metres (135 ft), making it the second tallest lighthouse in Kerala coast. Tangasseri Lighthouse is one of the most visited lighthouses in Kerala.
Surendranath Kar was an Indian artist and architect, known for amalgamating the Indian architectural style with western and eastern styles of architecture. Born in 1892 in British India, Kar did his primary learning of art under his cousin, renowned Bengali painter, Nandalal Bose, and Abanindranath Tagore, the nephew of Nobel Laureate, Rabindranath Tagore. Later, he joined Vichitra Club, founded by the Tagore family, as a teacher of art. In 1917, when Tagore set up Brahmacharyasrama, the precursor of later day Shantiniketan, he joined the institution and worked as an art teacher. Two years later, he moved to Kala Bhavana of Tagore as a faculty member.
Jamshed Nowroji Vazifdar, popularly known as Jimmy, was a Parsi physician from India and a former secretary of the Indian Red Cross Society at its Maharashtra Chapter. Born in Mumbai and graduated in medicine in 1946, he is known to have contributed to the blood transfusion movement in India. The Government of India awarded him the fourth highest Indian civilian award of Padma Shri in 1973. He died in 2000.
Gennadi Mikhailovich Pechinkov is a Russian actor, director and theatre personality, known for his portrayal of Rama. He played the part of the ancient Indian king from the epic, Ramayana, in 1960 at the Children's Theatre, Moscow and is reported to be the only European professional actor to have played the role in Europe. He continued playing the part for around 40 years and has performed in front many prominent Indian persons such as Jawaharlal Nehru and K. P. S. Menon. The Government of India awarded him the fourth highest civilian honour of the Padma Shri, in 2008, for his contributions to Theatre.

The National Football League (Under-19) was an annual played a youth league competition featuring football clubs from India.
