The city of Chennai in Tamil Nadu, India, is managed by the Corporation of Chennai. Established as Madras Corporation in 1688, it is the oldest municipal body in India. [1] [2] [3] It is headed by a mayor, who presides over 200 councillors each of whom represents a ward. The current mayor of Chennai was elected on 4 March 2022.
Prior to its expansion in late 2011, the city occupied an area of 174 km2 (67 sq mi); its merger with 42 local bodies at that time more than doubled its extent, resulting in a combined area of 426 km2 (164 sq mi). Chennai Corporation absorbed seven municipalities, three town panchayats and 13 panchayat unions in Tiruvallur district and two municipalities, five town panchayats and 12 panchayat unions in Kanchipuram district. [4] A total of nine municipalities merged into the city: Alandur, Ambattur, Kattivakkam, Madhavaram, Maduravoyal, Manali, Tiruvottiyur, Ullagaram-Puzhuthivakkam and Valasaravakkam. A total of eight town panchayats merged into the city: Chinnasekkadu, Puzhal, Porur, Nandambakkam, Meenambakkam, Perungudi, Pallikaranai, Sholinganallur. A total of twenty-five village panchayats merged into the city: Edayanchavadi, Sadayankuppam, Kadapakkam, Theeyampakkam, Mathur, Vadaperumbakkam, Surapet, Kathirvedu, Puthagaram, Nolambur, Karambakkam, Nerkundram, Ramapuram, Mugalivakkam, Manapakkam, Kottivakkam, Palavakkam, Neelankarai, Injambakkam, Karapakkam, Okkiyam-Thuraipakkam, Madipakkam, Jaladampet, Semmencherry, and Uthandi. The expanded city contains 4.41 million voters and was re-organised into 15 zones consisting of 200 wards. [5] The newly annexed areas were divided into 93 wards, and the remaining 107 wards were created out of the original 155 within the old city limits. [6] As of September 2011 [update] , the new wards are yet to be named. [5] Out of the 200 wards, 26 were reserved for scheduled castes and scheduled tribes and 58 were reserved for women. [6]

Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) is a local government for the City of Chennai in the Chennai Metropolitan Area of Tamil Nadu, India. Inaugurated on 29 September 1688, under a royal charter issued by King James II of England on 30 December 1687 as the Corporation of Madras, it is the oldest municipal body of the Commonwealth of Nations outside Great Britain. It is the largest municipal corporation in Tamil Nadu with an area of 426 km2. It is headed by a mayor, who presides over 200 councillors, each of whom represents one of the 200 wards of the city. It is the second oldest corporation in the world after the City of London. The city limits, which had been expanded several times over the years, is currently coterminous with the Chennai district. It is one of the four municipal corporations located within the Chennai Metropolitan Area, the other three being the Tambaram Corporation, Avadi City Municipal Corporation and Kanchipuram Municipal Corporation.

Broadway Bus Terminus is the largest city bus terminus of the Metropolitan Transport Corporation (Chennai), Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. It is located in the downtown area of the city, viz. Parry's corner and Fort. It lies opposite the Madras High Court along the Esplanade in George Town. It is a connecting point to several areas in the city. Pallavaram–Kundrathur–Poonamallee Road or State Highway 113A is an arterial road in Chennai City connecting Grand Southern Trunk Road in Pallavaram with Trunk Road in Kumananchavadi in Poonamallee running for a length of 13 kilometres (8.1 mi). The road is also known as Pammal Main Road. The road runs through Pammal, Anakaputhur, Kundrathur, Mangadu and Kumanan Chavadi.
Light Rail is a planned urban rail transit in Chennai, India along with other transit systems like Chennai Metro, Chennai Suburban Railway, and MRTS CMRL announced feasibility of Light Rail between Tambaram and Velachery. Originally, the route was Planned for Chennai Monorail between Vandalur and Velachery. Later it was taken over for Light Rail.

Inaugurated on 21 October 2021 covering an area of 36.14 Sqkm and an estimated population of more than 3,00,000 in 2021. It is headed by Mayor who presides over 51 councillors, each of whom represents one of the 51 wards of the city and executive is governed by Municipal Commissioner. Located about 75 km from Chennai in Tamilnadu state of southern India, Kanchipuram is a temple City renowned for its majestic temple architecture and Silk sarees. Of the 108 holy temples of the Hindu god Vishnu (DivyaDesams), 14 are located in Kanchipuram. In ancient time the city was a hub for religious education and was known as the ghatikasthanam, or "place of learning".
