Based on statistics from Our World in Data (starting in 1400), 1525 (the end of the German Peasants' War) was, at its time, the deadliest year in terms of conflict deaths with 160k deaths, until it was surpassed by 1618 which saw 316k deaths. As the Thirty Years' War (1618–1648) and the Manchu conquest of China (1618–1683) continued, 1618 was surpassed by 1619 (359k deaths), 1625 (443k deaths), 1627 (453k deaths), 1628 (456k deaths) and 1629 (456.8k deaths). 1629 was later surpassed by 1756 (457.5k deaths), at the start of the Seven Years' War.[1]

The siege of Eger occurred during the 16th century Ottoman wars in Europe. In 1552, the forces of the Ottoman Empire led by Kara Ahmed Pasha laid siege to the Castle of Eger, located in the northern part of the Kingdom of Hungary, but the defenders led by István Dobó repelled the attacks and defended the castle, despite being outnumbered approximately 1 to 17. The siege has become an emblem of national defense and patriotic heroism in Hungary.
The Crusade of Varna was an unsuccessful military campaign mounted by several European leaders to check the expansion of the Ottoman Empire into Central Europe, specifically the Balkans between 1443 and 1444. The Livonian campaign of Stephen Báthory took place in the final stage of the Livonian War, between 1577 and 1582. Polish-Lithuanian forces led by Stephen Báthory, King of Poland and Grand Duke of Lithuania, successfully fought against the army of Ivan IV "the Terrible", Tsar of Russia, over the Duchy of Livonia and Polotsk. Russian forces were expelled from Livonia before the campaign was concluded by the Truce of Jam Zapolski.
Count Gedeon Ráday de Ráda was a Hungarian soldier and politician, who served as Minister of Defence from 1882 until his death. As a soldier he took part in the Second Italian War of Independence and the Austro-Prussian War. He also fought in the Battle of Königgrätz. Between 1862 and 1865 he was the adjutant of Emperor Franz Joseph. From 1875 Ráday was a representative of the Independent Party but later joined to the Liberal Party. After the unexpected death of Béla Szende he was appointed as Minister of Defence, but similarly to his predecessor Ráday also died under his office holding. His son was Gedeon VII Ráday who became Interior Minister during the Regency.

Sir Miklós Perczel de Bonyhád, also known as Nicholas Perczel, was a Hungarian landholder, officer, and one of the leaders of the Hungarian Revolution of 1848. After his emigration to the United States of America he participated in the American Civil War as colonel of the 10th Iowa Infantry Regiment in the Union Army. He had a significant role in the liberation of Missouri. His older brother was Mór Perczel.
The Battle of Sahay or Zahájí was fought on 24 May 1742 near village of Zahájí, about 15 km (10 mi) northwest of České Budějovice in southern Bohemia, between the French under the Duc de Broglie and the Austrians under Lobkowicz. The battle was part of the War of the Austrian Succession and was conducted in cooperation with the Prussians under Frederick the Great who had defeated the Austrians a week previously at the battle of Chotusitz. Broglie won a small, but politically important, victory which combined with Frederick's success at Chotusitz disposed Maria Theresa to cede Silesia in the Treaty of Breslau on 11 June 1742.

Lieutenant Lajos Tóth was one of the most successful fighter pilots of the Royal Hungarian Air Force in the Second World War. He scored 24 aerial victories against the Soviet Air Force and an additional four against the United States Air Force for a total of 28 confirmed kills. After the war he voluntarily repatriated from exile in the United States to serve in the aerial combat arm of the Hungarian People's Army but was ultimately arrested and executed in one of the "salami" show trials in 1951.
The Hungarian–Ottoman War (1366–1367) was the first confrontation between the Kingdom of Hungary and the Ottoman Empire in the Balkans. The war ended with a Hungarian victory, as Louis I's armies defeated the Ottomans in a battle near Nicopolis, although the outcome of the battle is still questioned by Turkish sources.
