A general election was held in the U.S. State of Utah on November 4, 2014. The state's four seats in the United States House of Representatives are up for election and there was a special election for Utah's attorney general. Primary elections were held on June 24, 2014. [1]

Republican Attorney General John Swallow resigned in December 2013, less than a year into his first term, following multiple investigations into alleged bribery and campaign finance violations. [2]
Pursuant to Utah law, Governor Gary Herbert was required to pick a replacement from three names chosen by the Utah Republican Party Central Committee. [3] Nine Republican candidates put their names forward for consideration. They were:
Burns, Sorensen, Tarbet and Wilkins all said they would not run in the special election if chosen. [4]
Sorenson withdrew from contention on December 9, 2013, with Ward also withdrawing two days later. [5] A debate was held on December 11 [6] and Reyes, Smith and Tarbet were chosen as the finalists by the Central Committee on December 14. [7] Herbert chose Reyes on December 23, [8] who was sworn in on December 30, 2013. [9]
A special election was thus be held for the remaining two years of Swallow's term, with the office then up for the regularly-scheduled election in 2016. Reyes was unopposed in the Republican primary. Opposing him in the general election were Democratic rancher and attorney Charles A. Stormont, [10] [11] American Independent Party nominee Leslie Curtis, Constitution Party nominee Gregory Hansen and Libertarian nominee Andrew McCullough, a perennial candidate for office. [12]

Mark Leonard Shurtleff is an American attorney, former three-term Utah Attorney General, and founder of the Shurtleff Law Firm and the Shurtleff Group. He was a partner in the Washington, D.C. office of the law firm Troutman Sanders and served as a Salt Lake County Commissioner prior to being elected as Attorney General of the state of Utah.
Gregory Holden Hughes is an American politician who served as a member of the Utah House of Representatives representing District 51 from January 1, 2003 through December 31, 2018. Hughes is the former Speaker of the House for the House of Representatives in the state of Utah. He announced that he would not be seeking reelection as Speaker of the House or as a representative in 2018. In 2020, Hughes ran for the office of Governor of Utah. Spencer Cox became the Republican nominee after the Republican primary vote. Hughes ran to replace retiring U.S. Congressman Chris Stewart in the 2023 Utah 2nd congressional district special election, losing the primary to Celeste Maloy.

Incumbent Republican U.S. Senator Bob Bennett was seeking re-election to a fourth term, but lost renomination at the Republican Party's state convention. John Swallow is an American lawyer and politician who served as Attorney General of Utah. Just prior to serving as attorney general, he served as Chief Deputy Attorney General overseeing all civil litigation for the state of Utah.

He has served as a county, state, and national delegate for the Republican Party and a member of the Utah Republican Party's State Central Committee.
Janet Ann Graham Hunt, best-known as Jan Graham, was an American lawyer from Utah who served as State Attorney General from 1993 to 2001. Other than candidates for Lieutenant Governor running on a ticket with a male candidate, she is the only woman ever elected to statewide office in the state of Utah. She is the last Democrat to hold statewide office in Utah.
