Periyar Nagar is located near Kolathur, Ayanavaram, Villivakkam and Perambur. It is well connected by train and bus transports. It is very close to Perambur Loco Works railway station.

It is located in Ambattur taluk of the Chennai District, surrounded by Avadi, Anna Nagar, Korattur, Padi, Mogappair, Kallikuppam, Surapet, Ayappakkam, Athipet and Thiruverkadu. The overall extent of open space in the city is 34.58 km2. In all, the city has 121 species of trees belonging to 94 genera and 42 families. Teynampet zone remains the most diverse with 68 species, and Manali zone with just 38 species is the least. With 51 parks, Adyar remains the zone with the highest number of parks in the city, and Tiruvottiyur zone scores the least with only 4 parks. The share of Chennai's greenspace is dominated by the Guindy National Park, with an area of 2.71 sq km, which covers a vast area south of the Adyar River.
EVR Periyar Salai (EVR High Road), earlier known as Poonamallee High Road(NH 48) and originally the Grand Western Trunk Road, is an arterial road in Chennai, India. It is the longest road in Chennai. Running from east to west, the 14-kilometre (8.7 mi) road starts at Muthuswamy Bridge near Madras Medical College at Park Town and ends near Maduravoyal Junction via Kilpauk, Aminjikarai, Anna Nagar Arch, Arumbakkam, Koyambedu. The Chennai Corporation has started earmarking area in parks and public spaces for development of the next phase of Metro stations in various parts of the city. Greenery in the Murasoli Maran Park in Perambur, is expected to be reduced because of the second phase. Families are increasingly flocking to facilities such as the Murasoli Maran Park near Perambur flyover. For over years, the sprawling Murasoli Maran Park at Perambur was a centre of attraction, especially for the kids. The lockdown and poor maintenance have however adversely affected the footfall in the park. This is one of the biggest parks in the locality. But the local body is not taking interest in maintaining it.
