Psalm 62 is the 62nd psalm of the Book of Psalms, beginning in English in the King James Version: "Truly my soul waiteth upon God: from him cometh my salvation". The Book of Psalms is part of the third section of the Hebrew Bible, and a book of the Christian Old Testament. In the slightly different numbering system used in the Greek Septuagint version of the Bible and in the Latin Vulgate, this psalm is Psalm 61. In Latin, it is known as "Nonne Deo subiecta erit anima mea". [1] The psalm offers a warning not to let one's power erode one's trust in God. [2]
The psalm forms a regular part of Jewish, Catholic, Lutheran, Anglican and other Protestant liturgies. Verse 12 is quoted in the New Testament.

Jeduthun's name stands at the head of this psalms, along with Psalms 39 and 77. In 1 Chronicles 16:41–42 he is one of the chief singers, and his sons were gatekeepers at the tent of the Ark of the Covenant. His name is mentioned, perhaps, as a special honour. [5]
A phrase from verse 12, "for thou renderest to every man according to his work", which also occurs in Proverbs 24:12, is quoted in Matthew 16:27 and Romans 2:6 in the New Testament. [6]
Until 1912, Psalm 62 was part of the Tenebrae liturgy during the Holy Week.
In the Eastern Orthodox Church, Psalm 61 (Psalm 62 in the Masoretic Text) is part of the eighth Kathisma division of the Psalter, read at Matins on Tuesday mornings, as well as on Mondays and Thursdays during Lent, at the Sixth Hour and Matins, respectively. [7]
In the Church of England's Book of Common Prayer , this psalm is appointed to be read on the morning of the 12th day of the month. [8]
St. Norbet's Arts Center anchors its views on silence in verse 1, "For God alone my soul waits in silence; from him comes my salvation", from Psalm 62. [9]
Heinrich Schütz composed a choral setting of a metred paraphrase of Psalm 62 in German, "Mein Seel ist still in meinem Gott" (My soul is still in my God) in 1628 as part of the Becker Psalter.
Max Reger composed a paraphrase of Psalm 62, "Meine Seele ist still zu Gott" (My soul is still towards God) as the second of two sacred songs (Zwei geistliche Lieder) in German for voice (mezzo-soprano or baritone) and keyboard (organ or harmonium or piano), Op. 105, in 1907, the other being "Ich sehe dich in tausend Bildern" on a poem by Novalis. [10] George S. Talbot composed a setting in English, "My soul rests in God alone". In 1921, a setting of three psalm settings by Max Gulbins was published as his Op. 109. They were written for a three-part women's choir and organ, containing Psalm 62 as "Meine Seele ist stille zu Gott", and also Psalms 13 and 141. [11] In 1937, the Danish composer Vagn Holmboe set Psalm 62 for an unaccompanied children's choir. In 2000, Stephen McManus, composed a setting for unison choir, mixed choir, oboe and organ. [12]
"Psalm 62" is a track of the album Pages , the fifth studio album by the 2007 contemporary worship duo Shane & Shane. The Philippine composer Joel P. Navarro wrote a hymn setting in English, "My Soul Finds Rest", to a melody by Arnel dC Aquino, in 2011.
Psalm 95 is the 95th psalm of the Book of Psalms, beginning in English in the King James Version: "O come, let us sing unto the LORD: let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation". The Book of Psalms starts the third section of the Hebrew Bible, and, as such, is a book of the Christian Old Testament. In the slightly different numbering system in the Greek Septuagint version of the Bible, and in the Latin Vulgate, this psalm is Psalm 94. In Latin, it is known as "Venite exultemus" or simply "Venite". The psalm is a hymn psalm, one of the Royal psalms, praising God as the King of His people. Psalm 95 identifies no author, but Hebrews 4:7 attributes it to David. The Vulgate also names David as the author.

In Latin, it is known as "Ut quid Deus reppulisti in finem iratus". Subheaded a maschil or contemplation, and a community lament, it expresses the pleas of the Jewish community in the Babylonian captivity. It is attributed to Asaph.

In Latin, it is known as "Domine ne in furore tuo arguas me". This penitential psalm is traditionally attributed to David.
Psalm 7 is the seventh psalm of the Book of Psalms, beginning in English in the King James Version: "O LORD my God, in thee do I put my trust: save me from all them that persecute me, and deliver me". In Latin, it is known as "Domine Deus meus in te speravi". Its authorship is traditionally assigned to King David. The message in the psalm is that the righteous may seem weak, but ultimately will prevail against the wicked.
Psalm 13 is the 13th psalm of the Book of Psalms, beginning in English in the King James Version (KJV): "How long, O Lord". The Book of Psalms is part of the third section of the Hebrew Bible, and a book of the Christian Old Testament. In the Greek Septuagint and the Latin Vulgate, this psalm is Psalm 12 in a slightly different numbering system. In Latin, it is known as "Usquequo Domine".

Psalm 140 is the 140th psalm of the Book of Psalms, beginning in English in the King James Version: "Deliver me, O LORD, from the evil man". In the slightly different numbering system used in the Greek Septuagint version of the Bible, and the Latin Vulgate, this psalm is Psalm 139. In Latin, it is known as "Eripe me Domine ab homine malo". It is part of the final Davidic collection of psalms, comprising Psalms 138 to 145, which are specifically attributed to David in their opening verses. It describes putting one's trust in God while threatened with evil. The New King James Version entitles it a "Prayer for Deliverance from Evil Men".
Psalm 49 is the 49th psalm of the Book of Psalms, beginning in English in the King James Version: "Hear this, all ye people; give ear, all ye inhabitants of the world". In the slightly different numbering system used in the Greek Septuagint version of the bible, and generally in its Latin translations, this psalm is Psalm 48. In the Vulgate, it begins "Audite haec omnes gentes". The psalm is attributed to the sons of Korah and is closely connected with the "Wisdom" or religious philosophy of ancient Israel.
Psalm 50, a Psalm of Asaph, is the 50th psalm from the Book of Psalms in the Bible, beginning in English in the King James Version: "The mighty God, even the LORD, hath spoken, and called the earth from the rising of the sun unto the going down thereof." In the slightly different numbering system used in the Greek Septuagint and Latin Vulgate translations of the Bible, this psalm is Psalm 49. The opening words in Latin are Deus deorum, Dominus, locutus est / et vocavit terram a solis ortu usque ad occasum. The psalm is a prophetic imagining of God's judgment on the Israelites.
Psalm 59 is the 59th psalm of the Book of Psalms, beginning in English in the King James Version: "Be merciful unto me, O God, be merciful unto me". In the slightly different numbering system of the Greek Septuagint version of the Bible and the Latin Vulgate, this psalm is Psalm 58. In Latin, it is known as "Eripe me de inimicis meis Deu". It is described as "a prayer composed when Saul sent messengers to wait at the house in order to kill him", and commentator Cyril Rodd describes it as a "vigorous plea for the destruction of the psalmist's enemies".
Psalm 66 is the 66th psalm of the Book of Psalms, beginning in English in the King James Version: "Make a joyful noise unto God, all ye lands". In the slightly different numbering system of the Greek Septuagint version of the Bible and the Latin Vulgate, this psalm is Psalm 65. In Latin, it is known as "Iubilate Deo omnis terra". It is a psalm of thanksgiving probably intended for use at the Passover. The psalm is divided into two parts: in verses 1-12 the community praises God and invites the whole world to join in praise; in verses 13–20, "an individual from the rescued community fulfils a vow to offer a sacrifice of thanksgiving".
