Madina is a suburb of Accra and in the La Nkwantanang Madina Municipal District, a district in the Greater Accra Region [2] of southeastern Ghana. [3] Madina is next to the University of Ghana and houses the Institute of Local Government. Madina is the twelfth most populous settlement in Ghana, in terms of population, with a population of 137,162 people. [1] History has it that Madina was established by people from different ethnic backgrounds and some foreigners led by Alhaji Seidu Kardo. [4] Madina is contained in the Madina electoral constituency of the republic of Ghana. It shares borders with Adentan Municipal on the west, the Accra Metropolitan Assembly to the South and the Akwapim South District. [5] to the north.
Education in Madina can be categorised into Government, religious and private. [6] Some tertiary and second cycle schools located within the municipality includes and not limited to University of Professional Studies formerly known as the Institute of professional Studies, Islamic University College Ghana established with the aim of providing quality tertiary education to the youths, especially Muslim and the less-privileged or marginalised communities in Ghana, [7] Wisconsin International University. [8] Accra College of Education is the only public teacher training college located in Accra. It was established in 1902 [9] with the mission to train and orient student-teachers to become competent professional teachers of high caliber for Basic schools in Ghana through quality teaching and learning, research and application of modern technologies. The multiparty system in Ghana [12] permits citizens to freely join any political party of their choice. Parliamentary aspirants from the two main political parties won the parliamentary elections between 2005 and 2020 to become members of parliament. Members of parliament from 2005 to date are Alhaji Bukari Amadu Sorogho, who was a member of Parliament from 2005 to 2017, Alhaji Abu-bakar, and Saddique Boniface 2017 – 2021. The incumbent member of parliament for the Madina Municipality 2021 – 2025 is Lawyer Francis Xavier Kojo Sosu [13]
The majority of the residents are Muslims and Christians, with few practicing traditional religions. Although residents practice different religions, they co-exist peacefully. [14]
Madina market is one of the biggest and most vibrant markets in Accra. [15] Located on the Chief Alhaji Seidu Street, popularly known as Old road. [16] [17] It spans from Madina Zongo junction to Madina Polyclinic, Kekele, the main entrance can be found opposite to the Madina Divisional Police Station. Vendors, Sellers and providers of services at the market are active and competitive. Hawkers of various items mingle or display variety of items on tables and pavements along the street, thereby increases the visibility of the market to both travellers and visitors.

The University for Development Studies, Tamale was established in 1992 as a multi-campus institution. It is the fifth public university to be established in Ghana. This deviates from the usual practice of having universities with central campuses and administrations. It was created with the four northern regions of the country in mind. These are the Brong Ahafo Region, Northern Region, Upper East Region and the Upper West Region.
The Pentecost University is a private university located at Sowutuom in the Greater Accra Region of Ghana. It was founded by The Church of Pentecost (COP) and evolved from The Pentecost Bible College which initially trained only Lay Leaders and full-time Ministers for the COP. On May 22, 2003, J. A. Kufuor, the former President of Ghana, inaugurated PUC at the Sowutuom campus. The first PUC Council was inducted on May 6, 2004. Pentvars was accredited by the National Accreditation Board (NAB), Ghana in November 2004 and awarded its Presidential Charter on May 28, 2020, by Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the President of the Republic of Ghana. Prior to receiving a Presidential Charter, the university was affiliated to the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, University of Cape Coast, and University of Ghana. On June 1, 2020, the university announced the appointment of Rev. Prof. Kwabena Agyapong-Kodua, who replaces Apostle Daniel Okyere Walker, as the first Vice-Chancellor since the university became fully-fledged.

Originally it was formerly part of the then-larger Tema Municipal District, which was created from the former Tema District Council, until the eastern portion of the district was split off to create Kpone-Katamanso District on 28 June 2012, which was established by Legislative Instrument (L.I.) 2031; thus the remaining part has been retained as Tema Metropolitan District. Tamale Senior High School formerly Government Secondary School, Tamale, Gbewaa Secondary School, and more recently Tamale Secondary School is a co-educational second cycle boarding school located at Education Ridge, a suburb of the Sagnarigu Municipality. The school was founded in 1951 by the then British Colonial Authorities as the first second cycle institution of the Northern Territories.
